Hello my name is Mike, I start my c+e training on monday with Peter Smythe transport training in Mansfield Woodhouse.
I passed my Cat C almost 5years ago, and decided at the begining of this year inspired by reading training diaries in this forum, now was the time to try for c+e.
I passed my cat c at the second attempt. In the time since then i have only driven a 17 tonner once, but now with a few years of 7.5 tonne driving experence. I hope I find c+e a little easier.
Good luck to anyone else training or taking a test next week. And Peter if you read this i will see you on Monday morning. Mike

the only advice i can give is Don’t try and drive it like you would the 7.5t, it is a differant animal. remember you are potentially going to be driving a vehicle that weighs 44t so as my instructor kept telling me slow it down well in advance of junctions/roundabouts, i’ll be honest and say it felt really weird for me slowing down so early on the approach but having got the pass it was the right thing to be doing. also GOOD LUCK

Whats PMA Jennie?
Good advice Loopyjuce about needing to slow down a long away before junctions and roundabouts.
this is something i have been trying to do this last week in my 7.5 tonner
I did say trying.
Talking of trying, I must try to get some sleep now. Up early in the morning to drive to Mansfield Woodhouse.
I will try to do a mini diary of my training. I know that I have been inspired by others on this forum.
Thank you all for your posts. They realy do provide encoragement.
Yes Peter was right. I did not post yesterday. feeling very tired and had a very early night, and a good sleep.
As i think i said before i passed my cat c almost 5 years ago. And have only once driven a 17 tonner since then. Although i am now driving a 7.5tonner full time.
I found the first day difficult, but i felt i did not do to badly. Peter started of with a demonstration drive. And on to a ind estate, where i took over and drove around there for a bit till we went out over a test route.
What a lot to take in getting used to the length of the wagon and drag combo. The four over four gear box. This we both felt was my main weekness at times i could not work out how to operate the switch on the gear leaver correctley to change from low to high. Peter said i was moving the switch twice. However at times i got it right.
My other main weeknesses driving to slow at times. When moving off taking to long to start moving after checking my blind spot. And a delay when singnaling to turn.
After the drive back to the yard. to start on reversing. Peter explained very well, and i reversed into the correct finishing position several times, with guidance from Peter, building up an understanding of how the reverce works.
A lot to learn. No chance of passing test how i performed on monday, but a fair start.
Mike
Don’t let it get you down mate, you will be surprised at how quickly it all comes together, keep caLm and if you get it wrong, just keep trying, it will all work out in the end.
