Start and finish lines on tachos

Afternoon all,

A customer we’ve started doing a bit of driving work for is whinging about us writing start and finish lines on the front of our tachos, as apparently whoever he’s using to analyse his tachos kicks up a big fuss about them. Now I know that technically you’re not supposed to write anything outside of the centre field, but I also know that it’s standard practice to do so and neither of us have ever had it questioned when tachos have been analysed in the past. So my question is this: does anyone have a link to something vaguely official (ideally from VOSA, but failing that the RHA/FTA/etc.) on this that I can show him?

TIA,
Paul

if you look at the rules the only writeing allowed

apart from that which goes in the marked positions

is when you have to give an account of why you

went over your hours,in a emergencey, this

can be costly when you meet the wrong

person in MAINLAND EUROPE;

PEOPLE DO it but it is totaly illegal

Its perfectly legal to write outside the trace on the outer circle of the tachograph most companies usually ask you to write EDR or SDR or EWR or SWR either way you can write what you want with no fear of prosecution, BUT dont write on the trace or you’ll be up ■■■■ creek with no paddle.

I found it, FAQ50 on this link.
