Here’s something more complicated, you’ve got another gear in there somewhere…they’re usually 13 speed.

See, told you they were complicate, now where’s the fluckin auto switch… :unamused:

Tried one of those new auto box trucks brand new Scania 81, 1981 X reg, …Auto boxes will never catch on.
This one has a ‘gear lever’ that looks like the undercarriage control of a Lancaster Bomber on some sort of ratchet jobbie. :open_mouth:
Missing my 18 speed Fuller box on my Ford Transcontinental, a REAL truck. :sunglasses:

What’s it like parking in Liverpool? I heard you have to leave your sheets under the trailer wheels, also someone said the scally’s charge to “look after your motor Mr.” and that the rate has gone up from two bob to half a crown, any help please…

Ossie

I’m after tips from you experienced guys on which town centre lorry parks have decent discos nearby, or failing that pubs that do a decent lock in? Anyone help?

Oldham, Candlelight Club

Blackpool Tangerine Club

Morecambe, The Pier disco.

Charnock Richard Sevices n/b…through the fence to Park Hall nightclub.

Aldgate truck park East London, into The Red Lion for driver’s ‘entertainment’ (where you can see a young lady who has a unique way of smoking a ■■■. :open_mouth:  ) or…
If you can’t get parked on that roundabout, Bishopgate park for more of the same type of ‘‘entertainment’’.

Merthyr Tydfil ■■■■ and grab a gran night Thursday, (not really interested as I am still only 22. )

Hope that helps you young Maoster, let me know when you are parked Merthyr, and we can go looking for ‘‘fresher younger’’ meat…Sexist I know, but it IS the 80s after all.

What about The Kernel cafe at Walsall? £5 to park and that includes on site night club entry and a free breakfast (to be eaten approx one hour after you leave the club  ) ah, happy days.

What do you prefer these new plastic ropes or the old hemp ones? I know the hemp one cut your hands to ribbons but they do tighten up nicely when wet, I’ve heard about these new fangled ratchet strap thingy’s, cant see the boss buying them, never catch on…

Blimey you could go on all night with old sayings

Ossie

I remember the Kernel but think I only stopped once for breakfast tbh.
Park Hall I mentioned, on a couple of occasions we used to come out about 2.30 am, breakfast at Charnock, get changed, then set off to wherever we were going. :open_mouth: …young, irresponsible and bloody stupid.

At that time I was not the mature upstanding paragon of virtue then that I am today.

mmtm that it’s a guinea an hour, unless you’re allocated a Big J 8 LXB when you only get a pound due to the privelege of driving such a rare and exotic beast. Besides which, you don’t expect the shareholders to pay the Gardner premium do you?

Someone has nicked my spare wheel.
How many layers of canvas must show before this tyre is scrap.
My unit has C couplings but the trailer I have to pick up has hand couplings.

Can’t find the heater switch. Mind you I’m not 100% sure if it has one and I did see some blankets in the cab…
There’s a rumour doing the rounds about a new invention. A heater that also works when one is parked up. Mind you, I would be happy to have any heater that works. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
Why are drivers flashing only the left spotlight at me? :open_mouth: Are they trying to tell me something? I often see a police car not long afterwards. Just wondering

When you write the place names in your older style log book does it matter if you mis-spell it?
Are the Ministry really bothered about half-an-hour or so over your driving time? Or are they only after the bent drivers?
Should my second log book be all paid at double time or is my boss ripping me off?
When the new log books come in, must we keep stopping to extend the driving line every 15 minutes?
When the new Tachos come in how are we gonna get home on a “dodgy” night out? Spose we can still wave our old log books? Do those motorway phones accept thrupenny bits or do we need tanners and shillings? How long does it take for a Gardner to warm up enough to defrost an Atki windscreen? Ive now got 37 books of Green Shield Stamps, how many do I need for another set of decorated high-ball glasses?
I was loading in Fawley Refinery the other day, and got told off for smoking. Summat to do safety? I wasn`t even close to the gas tanks.
The batteries under the passenger seat of my Atki Borderer smell a bit, would a toilet air freshener cover this smell up?
The wooden frame on my Borderer cab is a bit soft, would PolyFilla harden it up?

Brilliant - best thread on the whole site!

(God - I REALLY am old!!)

The cold start handle of my DAF is snapped of, can I pull the button on the injection pump to start?
How long need the elastic band to be, to stop my tacho needle on the disc to go over 80km/h?
I need to go into Germany, will I fill out a “Tankschein” or shall I only take 200ltr?
O yes and by the way, how do I calculate my tankdippings in a round tank?
Until what time are the Italian customs open at Vipiteno?

Same in Glasgow when you park up on a bomb site near Sauchiehall St. (Is it true that the cops drag the bodies round to Hope St cos it’s easier to spell?)

And why are the little scrotes always so young? (The kids who “look after your motor" not the cops )
