Hi Folks

This is going to sound mad but, for those of you looking for work, please read your CVs before you send them out to the company you are applying to

So far this week I have had ones that consisted of -

Please give me a job, i’m wonderful, and that was about it…

I’m ex army, based near Hereford but not allowed to talk about it

I’m independant, articulate and could do your job better than you do <— That may be true but can you drive a lorry??

She/he has worked hard/maintains great work relationships (please delete where necessary) <—From a guy

Is it so hard to read them yourselves or get someone you know to check it over? I’ve removed the spelling mistakes from the quotes because I’m not asking for Shakepeare to drive my lorry (he couldn’t spell either, including his own name) but basic grammer, not being a nob and some explanation of what you have done would be a distinct improvement

Sorry for the whinge. I shall keep on reading…

You can add independant to the list above. Along with Shakepeare. Perhaps you should take your own advice?

The comical thing is you asking ‘where?’

Most of the errors had already been pointed out…

What is refreshing is a question is being asked: where are the errors?
Not a shouty defence of the post, or (far too often) an automatic defence of the size of the poster’s gonads.

It may be refreshing…but also a little ironic that he needs to ask, given his pontification.

Q.E.D.

Actually Shakespeare has about 4 different spellings done by himself on original play transcripts.

I’m female btw and allowed to pontificate! It’s part of my charm

FWIW there’s good and bad in all drivers what ever their previous jobs. I have worked with a lot of ex squaddies, some that fit Mick’s stereotype and some that are bloody good drivers. The rail company I used to work for loved squaddies because they followed the rules the co had set, plus the management were all ex military too.

Where I am now, the boss is very good at giving newbies a try, which can be interesting as some of our collection and delivery points have us experienced hands thinking ‘How the hell do I get in there ■■?’ Yes he does get some damage, and some don’t last long, but others have been there a while. Was in the yard on Friday and having a chat with the boss regarding differences in trucks 6 months apart in age (mine had been in for a repair the previous week and I had had a 6 month older one of the same model and spec but it was minging and drove like a bag of nails). He said to compare mine to its sister truck which was 50k less in km but a lot rougher. The difference being mine had had 2 drivers since new (first one for 4 years then me) and the other had had several, all experienced blokes but were a lot rougher in how they drove and cared for the truck.

No matter your background, experience or age there are good, bad and shocking drivers out there, its just a matter of weeding out what you can cope with.

Indeed…none of those spellings, to my knowledge, involving just the single S.

Since you’re of the gentler ■■■, I fully expect you to prove me wrong.

If you make me laugh I can’t be arsed to argue

I’d show you mine good friend, but I’d not wish too upset the delicates…
Nor belittle myself too much further thanks to its lack of experience within the field, and grammatical butchery too boot.
It’s a sad state of affairs when even the Cougars are wanting 2yrs experience and a PhD in englishary before they’ll succumb too the cub’ ■■■■ for learning and obvious natural, raw talent [emoji3064][emoji16]

Aaah the old ‘tha worta in majorka dont taste like wot it ooortaaa’ has sprung too mind with this thread [emoji28]

Does the company you work for state they are and equal opportunities employer?

No. It is not a company for leftie sensitive “entitled” snowflakes. If you want equal opportunities go to Stobart and DHL where they’re too frightened of bad press over such silliness and so will hire anyone with a pulse regardless of their abilities (or lack thereof) and will nanny them accordingly.

I bet your one of these idiots that revel in their own make believe self importance.

Nicely put

But which is then totally contradicted by the reference to ‘25 years experience’ also being a requirement.

Blimey. I thought I was fairly experienced at this stage but even I’m a year short of 25 years experience.

You expect the employer to apply to you for the privilege of employing you.Obviously with no silly questions regarding the E word. :smiling_imp:

EXACTLY! I’m so glad we have reached this understanding Carryfast. Companies are honoured to have me consider them at all.

Peace be with you
