Sorry mark but no one in their right mind would take a truck through Stamford if they did’nt have to, its a real bottle neck and can take ages. The only time I would go through is to get towards the Deepings from the A1 if I were northbound and past the A47 or come off the A43.

i thought stamford had been 7 1/2 ton limit for years know in fact i remember when it happened about 4 years ago pc hamilton i think created a right old stink about it then stamford wanted pc hamiltons lorries to do the carnival and pc hamilton said get stuffed “if i cant come into stamford during the week i cant come in on your carnival!”.
i think it was because pc hamilton did the pall ex deliveries in that area and then they had to use more smaller vehicles for stamford.

We go through Stamford about 3 days a week.

Mind you,one of our customers stores is onthe retail park, just along from Maccy D’s.

Ken.

I don’t stop for the police anyway,so if he can run at 56mph then he might keep up.

It would be nice if they put 7.5 tyon signs at each end of Stamford and not just in the middle.

Now now come on, if they did that, how would they get all that nice fine money? Like a lot of things, things are made as such so that whilst most of the time you can get away with it, if the police should so choose, they can use it to their advantage for a few days to raise funds and then it will be forgotten again until they decide to another temporary crack down.

Have been to Stamford today, and do recall seeing weight limit signs before crossing the A1, therefore giving me the chance to divert around the town.
But , seeing as I was in the car, I didn’t need to.
Must take more notice tomorrow when I go over there again.
Its surprising how far ‘Mom’s Taxi’ travels on a weekend. :unamused: :unamused:

Thanks for the warning Mark. I have to say I’m guilty of going through through there on numerous occasions to get to other places. It isn’t a “weight” limit anyway, it’s a NIMBY limit and for those I couldn’t give a [zb] whether it a 25 gram weight limit or a 100 tonne weight limit, I ignore them all.

so how do you know when it’s an environmental limit and when it’s a structural one rob

Although Stamford is local to me it is years since I went through the place in a lorry, take it from me if you go through Stamford YOU will get nicked,

From what I remember there are loads of signs warning of weight restrictions through Stamford. I’ve only taken a Truck through it once and I was looking for a building site at the Stamford School, which should have been easy except the school has sites throughout the town and it was not obvious which site I was supposed to be on.
There is also a weak bridge in the centre of town, although you can avoid it and still get through, but you do go through a lot of residential areas and there are other ways to get on the A16.
I thought being caught driving through a weight limit not only led to a fine, but could also affect the companies operators licence.

thought not! :unamused: good luck with the fines, it’s about £12k per structure for the full survey, never mind any damage IF they do catch you, big if of course but i live in hope

Probably from the fact that there is a small plate underneath - except for access / loading / unloading

now call me stupid, but if there is a structural reason you wouldnt get over it just because you have a delivery?

Because the sign says EXCEPT FOR ACCESS. :unamused:
