I thought it it was just my mob who phoned their drivers to see where they were, even though there is a great big 48" flat screen up on the office wall telling them exactly where we are.
I got a new truck last month and they have fitted a TomTom tracker come satnav as a trial to see if they are any good. Its linked to the digi tacho and truck ECU so can give them real time fuel data, harsh braking events, excessive idling, even tells them if you go round corners too fast!!! They expect that it will cut around £60k per year between fuel and repairs if its fitted to the entire fleet. But we have never been trained on how to get the best out of the trucks so without training i feel like its a waste of money. Big Bro is certainly watching over us though, but if you’ve nothing to hide, you’ve nothing to worry about IMO.
Something is puzzling me, the bit about we have never been trained how to get the best out of the trucks
bit, surely this is a joke, right. Do people professional
drivers really belive this, when people drive a new car do they demand traning to get the best
out of it or do they just fiqure it out themselves!
Back on topic, if nowt to hid why worry what the tracker is showing, also come in handy when on a new job, just ring up the office and ask them for directions when your near.

Last company I worked for had them they not bad bit of kit BUT do double check the route they give you on the NAV as not always the best (took me through weight limit zones a few times) also known to tell the office one of the boys was doing 79 mph uphill with 24 tonnes of steel on whilst on the M25!!! dont let your engine idle for more then 5 mins and everytime you have an ‘infraction’ the guy who monitors it will get a little message

Last company I worked for (as a sparky driving a Transit Connect), had trackers in all the vans. I got dragged in one day to be presented with a printout saying that I had done 386.7 MPH through Bedford town centre. I was informed by my boss that if it proved to be genuine I would be instantly dismissed. I wasn’t too bothered, as I thought if it was genuine I’d be snapped up by one of the F1 teams!
We have trackers fitted in our vans now, but the only time I ever log in is when I need an emergency picking up, or when one of the guys phones in for directions. All the guys who work for me I trust completely, if I felt the need to constantly check where they are & what they’re doing, I’d think I had more problems than they did!
If I owned a transport company, I would fit trackers to all my vehciles, and I reckon most on here would to…
