After sitting for half a mile on the limiter it starts to make a harsh mechanical growling noise bit like the engines resting directly on the chassis very difficult to describe but you could feel it up through the column and the whole cab fizzed. I’ve driven plenty of these 4wd Merc Hiabs (they’re used in fields for overhead power line work) to know that this wasn’t up to scratch, not for a 615 mile hack anyway. I’d previously defected the truck on exactly the same fault when I collected it from another depot two weeks ago. But that was only a 35 mile trip to central workshops. The whole vehicle is pretty tired generally can’t see the Inverness boys getting excited about it rolling in through the gates with nine years worth of mud on it (and in it)
FLIP:
Shouldn’t be a problem under normal traffic conditions mate.
We used to do it ok from Rutland going via A1 then A66 and it takes us 4h30 just to Todhills/Gretna.
Running empty should be no problem at all.
Bear in mind that there are average speed cameras nowith on the A9 all the way from Perth up Inverness. Not a problem for you but some of the tourist traffic can be painstakingly slow & processional. There’s also quite a stretch of 40mph in the roadworks north of Newtonmore but even so you should be ok as long as you get up past Preston on the M6 without too many delays.
One of the lads managed Lochinver to Abingdon the other day but that was running through the night with a V8
Lochinver to Abingdon legally in a shift, no effin way!!!

Yeah total bs. That’s almost a thousand kilometres. And with nearly 300 on crap roads at that. V8 or not, best you’d manage would be Stafford in my opinion
we run from colne to turriff every week easily andd i did colne to Brora this week. did them both inside a 9.
From Abingdon to Lochinver takes 10 1/2 hours in a car while keeping to the max speeds permitted, and that’s with no hold ups at all. And the average speed cameras start at the Dunblane roundabout not Perth.

I’d say you’ll have no problems really. I regularly do Immingham to Inverness in under 9hrs.There’s loads of lay-bys on the A9 for a 45. Literally one every couple of miles. I usually stop for a 45 around Lockerbie or Eeardley International at Ecclefechan.
Can’t beat lockerbie much better than the MSA where you come back on at jct17 A74m that’s a Zb hole
Parking is a dream, food is nothing startling. Good hairdressers, always get mine done there. That said would rather park at Dougs at Penrith.
