St Ives (Cornwall)

Just testing the water so to speak.
To cut it short, the missus has been offered a management job there and we are perusing over relocating but i know i would imagine a sustantional cut in wages as its not the best paying area for drivers.
Any decent firms down that way?
Not expecting to earn a fortune . just putting the feelers out really.
Thanks in advance.

Probably the closest to St ives is R&R transport out of Redruth, or maybe Conway Bailey. Don’t know what the wages are or what they are like to work for, but the kit of their ive seen is usually up to date and appears to be looked after.

Maybe some on here know what there like to work for.

Lovely part of the world 100 times better than Swindon but very quiet job wise i’m afraid, but if you’re experienced you might get something, good luck and enjoy the clean sea air.

try westfields at truro,

Gregory’s used to base some artics with walking floors doing waste paper at the roundabout you turn off to go to st Ives. I think the village is crowlas.

Or try and get on with a firm up country and get a load home on a Friday?

It’s smells so fresh down there and the oxygen seems more pure as well, everyone has rosey cheeks. I love Cornwall I would definitely consider it.

Why did that make me giggle?

Dennis Oates or Conway Bailey ,Huggy Newport ,L.Stephensons .G .Stone

Kay transport, a division of Gregory are based in Plymouth and Fowler Welch have a trunking base in Newton Abbot, other than that you could try getting on for a fish haulier or dairy down there by having a mooch around. Or just live off the “Managerial Missus” and have an easy life!

Biffa have got a depot down way-

Probably class 2 work & local, but usually reasonable money.

Perhaps get out of driving and do something else and maybe your quality of life may be better even if you are a few quid down every month.

Not a lot down this way at mo mate, local tipper work, long distance on Baileys(R &R Redruth) same company. Its who you know down here at the moment. Same as all uk. We all in the ■■■■!! :imp: :imp:

That thought has crossed my mind tbh.
Or even a bit of part time work.Been doing the job for 30 years now and beginning to realise that there is more to life than driving lorries but still want to “keep my hand” in so to speak and i know that probably doesnt give out the right impression to a potential employer but what the heck.
Thanks for all replies so far.

No idea what the situation down there is like but what about part time agency? Or is it not a big thing that way?

Can’t advise on the job front but a really beautifull area
My last company over there sent me to Stithians show every year and it was my favourite, arrive Friday afternoon, set up Saturday, free day Sunday, show on Monday and tear down Tuesday, party party party … great scenery. Lucky man.

Not the only one - love it there - If it wasn’t for the massive house prices and fear of not getting decent work I’d have moved there myself when we were looking a couple of years ago.
