St.Eddies?

I was talking to an old lady on Friday morning who used to live in Carlisle.
I don’t know how it came about that ES was named, but she told me this:
In the days of the original Eddie Stobart, they had a big connection with the local methodist church, and at one time there was a big falling out and Eddie withdrew his support and built his own church, that was not connected to any other in the area,in other words,Stobarts became a ■■■■■■■ religeon!

Oh No!!! :unamused:

And hows this for poetic religious justice, apparently they had a warehouse full of bibles that was burnt down and also had a severe flood at their depot, all that was needed in addition was a plague of locusts but I think Carlisle was a bit too far north for this last “biblical” scourge!! But it was funny at the time ! Bewick.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

each parishoner has a 30 minute window, don’t be late, you could be refused confession, and you may have to re-book, you will then return to crick in shame. however, if you do manage to confess, you will usually be told to say three hail eddies, and one hail tinkler.
don’t forget to dress like a clown. or is it a leprechaun.

I think you will find that it was a company called ‘Send The Light’ that burned down in Carlisle a good number of years ago.
A Christian book company and nothing to do with ESL other than them being on the same Industrial Estate.

What is funny about somewhere burning down? with a potential loss of life you knob.

Anything Christian burning down is always going to be funny, and welcome, in my book.

Cool breeze.

Quite so

The story I heard was that Eddie got big quick with a loan from the Church, hence the collar & ties. When the Church found out that the drivers worked on Sunday they withdrew the loan & the rest is history.Dont ask me which church, they all look the same to me.
