I a bit confused about split daily rest. I have a driver working in my team, this is his schedule.
Monday
09:00 drive to warehouse in London
10:00 training and load truck
14:00 drive to Liverpool + break depending on travel time
19:00 arrive at Liverpool, rest at hotel
00:00 drive to location and rig stand
05:00 finish then back to hotel for 9 hours min rest
As Alix said, you can have a 3 + 9 to have only 9hrs off everyday (instead of reduced rest), but you can still only do 15hrs from start to finish unless double manned.
There’s probably some ferry clause or something I’ve missed, but that’s the basics.
You will have to send two drivers double manned, you can do a 20 hour shift then I think. Why doesn’t he just leave 5 hours later then he wouldn’t be faffing around between 7pm and midnight in the hotel? Even then it would be tight. If you want to blag it, he could pop his card when he gets to the venue at midnight and do the midnight to 5am off the clock? Then either kip in the truck outside or leave the truck there and taxi it back to the hotel. Either way it’s a monster shift and if it’s a big stand, he may need a hand.
The minimum requirement for daily rest amounts to 9 hours. Doesn’t matter wether its split or not. A drivers minimum rest period is 9 hours, he has to be able to fit this nine hours, enbloc within 24 hours from the time he starts his shift.
9 hours rest of course is a reduced rest period from the usual 11 hours minimum. But seeing as reducing a rest period is allowed 3 times a week the only practical use for the ‘split daily rest’ option is to allow an extension of nine hour rests beyond the three a week limit.
