I was only asking a sensible question JT,and then you pile in offering to do the kicking!!!Dennis.
Anyone remember a red Daf85 tractor unit parked in a field alongside the A1 between Scotch Corner and Catterick in the eary 90’s? This belonged to Spinks origionally.
I bought it eventually and ran it on Color Line/Fjord Line for a few years (N221WHN).
evening all. I remember spinks had a yard at scotch corner and i think carnt quite rember but was it Russal spink who used to rallycross a DRSM sponsored RS200 in the late 80s early 90s
I remember Spinks as Spinks Interfreight years ago.
Wincanton used a subbie in the 90s and they were called Spinks for a start but then later on known as Hutchinson.I think it was Gary Hutchinson who was the owner, and their yard was somewhere near Scotch Corner.
In the mid 70`s was the colour a light orange and spinks in black writing on the cab or is it
some one else I’m thinking of.
The Spinks I remember were in the same colours more or less as Dickinsons of Darlington. I often wondered if they took Spinks over as I remember the yard as a kid and bells rang when I was delivering next to Dickinsons many years later.
Chris.
spinks yard was off glebe rd in darlington, mainly for repairs, trls were based out at hartlepool s/works they had the contract out of the 20ins pipe mill in the early seventies , loosing it to stiller later on. jeff spink had a farm opp the clock cafe at scotch corner he opened the garage at s/corner and rented trls out,it is now a carravan park. dont think he sold out to anyone.
ps,dickinsons depot is at winston station.
The Costessy depot (nr. Norwich) was originally Bells of Stockton. In the late 60s / early 70s they were taken over by Spinks and eventually the colour scheme was changed from dark green and red to orange. The drivers “painted” the trailers in their spare time, even loaded ones, they would slap paint over ropes and chains in fact anything that was in the way, they certainly didn’t mess about at Spinks.
Big J Guys were the mainstay of the fleet, some with ■■■■■■■ and some with Gardner 180s. I don’t know what they did to the Gardners but they didn’t half go. Great bunch of drivers too. Regards, Haddy.

Hi Haddy. Bells used to changeover in Grantham bus station 5/6 nights a week in the early 60s,same as Turners from Norwich.I’ve had lifts with them back to Kings Lynn on a sunday night/monday morning when I was in the RAF at Feltwell.IIRC Bells ran Atkis then.
Used to see Spinks’s trucks and trailers parked up in a yard next door to Corus on Whessoe rd Darlington. They were mainly B reg F10 Globetrotters, red with a yellow stripe.
i think the yard next to b/steel was the trl park for b/steel,there would also be allinsons as well as spinks and other hauliers parked there.
I knew an old boy from Sandy, Beds, he told me he used to be a Day Man for Spinks. They used to change drivers in the bypassed bit of the A1 at Biggleswade and he used to run down to London, tip and reload back ready for the Night Man to take over back north. Ronnie Ashwell was his name, finished up on Marshalls concrete out of Sandy.
I used to do change overs with spinks on the A1 near grantham ,in 1984/85 i drove for woods from kent ,they had volvo f10s,and i think DAF 3300 'S , i can remember two of the drivers bomber and wilf,i used to give them a trl loaded with fruit for leeds/gateshead ect,and they would bring down fertiliser from billingham which i would deliver to robertsbridge ,does anyone remember the drivers i mentioned
