Well after 30 yrs of a clean licence I reckon I was caught in the car on the M74 by a mobile traffic van hiding to the side of a bridge half behind some bushes, I was doing about 85mph !
I know It was silly to not be quick enough and alert to get caught there so I cannot complain.
So is it 3points and £100 still in Scotland or have they actually decided to do the speed awareness courses yet as they have been asked to do for yrs by govt ? I read something last yr that they were considering starting but have they ?
Have a read up about going unsigned as that’s still an option in Scotland, I’d recommend going to pepipoo for advice, it’s doable but not for those that fold easily.

Who asked by who?
If the Scottish Government wanted to implement courses as an alternative to to prosecution, they would. They don’t need to ask themselves.
But there have been no suggestions of doing so, nor any demand from politicians, police, or the public.
Welcome to Scotland.
Same happened to me on the 74 . Nice quiet motorway, long way home still… then waiting for the postman

First bought up in 2010 , asked again in 2012 , and in Oct 2015 this is the transcript from the first parliamentary debate.
Mary Scanlon (Highlands and Islands) (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party): To ask the Scottish Government what its position on introducing speed awareness courses; whether it would consider using these as an alternative to prosecuting drivers for low-end speeding offences, and, if so, how it would encourage the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service to use it as a means of case disposal.
(S4W-28196) Derek Mackay: The Scottish Government supports the general principle of driver education as an
alternative to prosecution, where appropriate.
At present, prosecutors may offer diversion from prosecution courses in relation to careless driving, but there is no equivalent diversion scheme in relation to speeding.
We are therefore working with key partners from our Road Safety Strategic Partnership Board – including Police Scotland and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service – to assess whether speed awareness courses would make an effective additional contribution to road safety in Scotland.
The introduction of any such speed awareness courses in Scotland would require a robust evidence base and the approval of the Lord Advocate, who would also decide how they would be used in practice.
Since then they have been drawing up paperwork to work towards this…but when will the buggers get around to enforcing it ?
The Nationalist government aren’t going to introduce speed awareness courses because England already has them, they also won’t bring in a 50mph limit on A roads, why? Because England already has! The Nats will not copy anything England has led the way on. They just like to be contrary, what do you expect when we’re ruled by someone like Sturgeon

Bang on. Sad thing is she has brain washed 2 3rds of the scotish population
you really believe that ■■
She is following in Alex Salmond’s footsteps, so if your statement was true they would have achieved a 66% yes vote in the referendum !
I doubt they will offer leniency on speeding when they are pushing more rigorous enforcement. All they want is your money. Putting scameras on the widest and least congested road in the country quite clearly shows their true intent behind the guise of safety

Aye well, thankfully the majority of scots saw through the Nats fairy stories and did the right thing
The fact is that we need to raise revenue somehow. We took the tolls off of the bridges and put them on the roads instead. When you are up here remember that speeding fines are voluntary.

85MPH on your speedo? Chances are it may have been 77-78MPH real speed which is just on the cusp of getting away with it and certainly in England the traffic cops tend not to bother on quiet motorways until you’re topping 80MPH real speed.
If you’ve a mobile phone with GPS then download a GPS app that’ll show your speed and go for a drive. With someone holding the phone sit at a steady 60MPH on your speedo and see what the GPS app says. I know a mate of mine who has an Astravan is only doing 72MPH when his speedo is showing 80. My Mondeo is quite out as well but my MX5 is almost spot on.

Well Conor you may just be right !!!
I have not yet got anything in the post so I reckon I still have a clean licence.
It’s been near four weeks.
