well ive been a bad boy and finally times caught up
q1 , ive got a letter through asking me to confirm my details, saying i was doing 37 mph in a 30 mph limiton the A647 GT HORTON ROAD , BRADFORD, BETWEEN COOPER LANE AND MOORE AVENUE EB[ i assume eb means east bound].
does any one know this stretch of road , is there speed cammeras, static or vans on it, i just cant visualise that road ,
Q2 . POINTS REDUCTION SCHEME [ is that the name ]
wherby if you go on a course you dont get points , what does that entail , where do you do it , do you still pay the fine , is a record still kept of the offence or because youve gone on the course it scrubs a record of it .etc, etc ta
You should be thankful that the GATSO doesn’t have a breathalizer in it or your problems could’ve been a lot worse knowing your “history” .
The course is basically a load of dummies sitting there while some bloke/bird witters on about how a child could’ve stepped out etc… That’s about it really and you’d be stupid not to take it if you value your licence. The course will probably be held in W Yorks as that’s where the incident took place. That’s how they usually work anyway.
not aware of fixed speed cameras in Gt Horton rd but there are warning signs !
I will check tonight when I take wife shopping (at no more than 30 mph)
regarding point reduction course, a friend at work got caught , in Bradford, and had to go to Preston for the course.but that was last year so it is possible that a course is available in bradford area now.
So a days wage lost plus expenses etc, but still a better option than points.
yes there is a record kept of your offence I believe, as this option is not available to repeat offenders.
Given the choice …
Loss of days wages , extra expense for the course as you do have to pay for it , and travelling expenses …
I would pay £60 and take 3 .
Just checked the speed camera database and there are two static cameras in Great Horton Road.
Speed awareness courses are usually only available to first time offenders and if you do not complete the course for any reason i.e. being disruptive, asking difficult questions or generally making a nuisance of yourself. You are deemed not to have completed the punishment and get to keep the fine & points.
So the bottom line is if you get offered the course be prepared for death by PowerPoint and keep stum.
Ron 9516, which database did you check?
there are no cameras showing on the one I checked and having a look tonight did not see any safetycameraswestyorkshire.c … ations.htm
If it was a straight 3 points id try and fight it but seeing as youve been offered a road safety course id just accept that instead. No points but still get a £60 fine.
The thing that gets me is the vans are only there 9-5 so don’t get the scrotes who do 50-60 down there every evening (many of them under the influence I don’t doubt) but get some poor sod doing 35 on the way home from Tesco’s.
In the 11 years I lived near this road there have been 3 fatal accidents. They were all between 11pm and 2am
Not sure if a speed awareness course option will be offered to a vocational license holder who was driving vocationally at the time of offence?
Different police authorities have different guide lines, but assuming the norm of 30mph + 10% + 2 = 35 a course wouldn’t be an option at 37. But then i have heard of some areas allowing it upto 40.
Need to find out that police forces’ guide lines & if they are enforced differently for truck drivers.
The Association of British Drivers website might be informative.
Generally, leeway for moving traffic offences is more marginal for vocational license holders as its a case of “we should know better.”

They do do them for truckers because my mate got caught by a GATSO in his truck a while back and went on one of these courses, hence where I got my info from above.
I just tossed three NIP’s in the bin, two were from august last year, heard nothing more and haven’t had a visit for s172, under scottish law you can go unsigned and take your chance, in england i think you can use PACE but it’s a lottery and you can end up with bigger fine and 6 points for the s172 [failing to disclose driver details] if they catch up with you
here’s an informative forum for speeding related queries if you want to fight it…

went to local cop station and the bloke on the desk originally said the same that 37 mph was too high to go on the course but when he checked the sheet in the office he said
30 -35 was a rap on the knuckles
35- 38 was either fine and points or course
38 - cant rember what speed he said was points and fine
0ver 51mph i think, is a summonds
