Just a word of warning for drivers who speed in this area.
Earlier today, a truck overtook me on the Ilminster bypass. He was being followed by an unmarked silver audi a6 cop car who promptly pulled him over.

You’d think they would have better things to do.
Like keeping an eye out for the thieving ■■■■■ scum who keep nicking peoples diesel…not harassing generally law abiding citizens just trying to earn a crust.

The A303 usually does have it’s far share of speed traps and police cars that’s why i always stick to about 40-42 on the single sections and 50-52 on the duals it ain’t worth the aggro.

Rubbish. Marked cars outnumber unmarked ones something like 5 to 1 in most police fleets. Plus, the vast majority of unmarked cars are only used for CID work and are not even fitted with a calibrated speedo, so cannot be used for speed enforcement.
Slightly off topic but currently on the A75 Dumfries and Galloway plod are running 2 unmarked Audi A4’s,one white,one black,a silver Saab 93,silver Volvo V70,black Astra,theres also a dark coloured Golf knocking about,and,believe it or not,a Mini!,shows you where the priorities lie up here

Same car was about last night. They also have a white 5 Series BMW and a silver Skoda Octavia
Funny though they had a problem lately with a navy blue 5 Series BMW that was all lit up pulling people over and issuing on the spot fine. Trouble was the bloke driving it wasn’t an old bill just some randomer that had blue strobes and a Wig Wag on his car. Think they nicked him after 3 weeks.
Any one else noticed the increase in marked traffic cars on the motorways of late?
Round eastbourne where I live theres more unmarked than marked traffic cars.
They even got a nice bmw x5.all unmarked traffic cars have got calibrated speedos.

Speeding is breaking the law, and often leads to other crimes.
Stick to the speed limit…simples!

The problem us drifting over by a few mph and then being nicked by a rule book copper. Outside a school etc, ok. On a quiet A road, who would reasonably say 4mph more is worthy of a ticket?
In the whole grand scheme of things, when scumbag thieves etc are running around, it’s not a good use of police time IMHO.
