Just a quick one Gents,
Currently studying for the LGV theory and came across this question within the question bank ‘Vehicle weights and dimensions’ of mocktheorytest.com …
What’s the speed limit on a dual carriageway when you’re carrying a load that’s 4.5 metres (14 feet 9 inches) wide?
A. 15 mph
B. 25 mph
C. 35 mph
D. 45 mph
You selected B, the correct answer was C
Vehicles carrying loads between 4.3 metres (14 feet 1 inch) and 5 metres (16 feet 6 inches) wide are subject to lower speed limits. The limit depends on the type of road. On a motorway it’s 40 mph (64 km/h), on a dual carriageway it’s 35 mph (56 km/h), and on all other roads it’s 30 mph (48 km/h).
From previous study, I thought my answer was correct, 25mph. This information is confirmed in the DVSA guide to driving goods vehicles, page 60. (But you never know, could be a print error etc etc)
For this load width it would be 30mph on motorways and 20mph on all other roads.
I am using what appears to be an older version of the guide as I have checked the ISBN number which is different from the latest LGV book on the DVSA website. Even so I would be unaware of any speed limit changes introduced from when the book I have was published and therefore seek clarification, after all it could be worth ‘un point’ on the test !
I did find this … webarchive.nationalarchives.gov. … iagram.pdf …which would support mocktheorytests answer and strongly indicate that there has been a speed limit change.
Ive also contacted mocktheorytest for confirmation.
Thanks in advance.
