Changes to the law in France
Since decree n°2012-3 was introduced on 3 January 2012 it has been illegal to be warned about the position of fixed or mobile speed cameras while you are driving in France. If your TomTom navigation device has the Speed Camera service and you continue to use the service, you risk a fine of up to €1500.
Make sure you comply with the law when driving in France
There are two things that you should do:
When driving in France, disable the speed camera alerts on your device.
Update your device with the latest Speed Cameras. This will remove the Speed Cameras for France from your device.
Note: If you manage your device using TomTom HOME and you don’t have a subscription to Speed Cameras, you need to manually remove the Speed Cameras for France. If you manage your device using MyTomTom and you don’t have a subscription to Speed Cameras, TomTom is developing an update that will disable speed camera alerts while driving in France. When this update is available, you can connect your navigation device to MyTomTom to download and install it.
We are working on a new service for France that warns you about danger zones instead of speed cameras. To keep up-to-date with the latest news about this new service, subscribe to this page by clicking the Notify me link at the end of the page. We’ll send you a mail when more information is available.

Now I’ve been told you can only get done by the mobile laser gun speed traps and not by the fixed cameras, I quite often holiday in France and have been told this numerous times by the dvla.

Dont think so ,as in our local paper last summer there was a report that a newly installed speed camera (static) caught 165 motorists for speeding in its first hour of operation.

I’ve set a few off in my time on my way to the South of France especially that one in Reims I seem to get caught out every year with that one but never been done, yet !!
bigvern1:
You don’t need to go Reims anymore. The new peage misses it completely.
That’s good then because I always struggled going from about 90 -95 down to about 50 mph for the city bit.
I always use the “old route” through Reims. Firstly saves a bit of the toll cost. Secondly its a bit more scenic with the canal etc. Thirdly I always beat anything including cars that use the longer route round Reims. Probably a matter of time before trucks will be banned on route through Reims though.
french police are using plain cars on the motorways now and national roads,no problem there, if you see a car on the side of the road take ur foot off the gas, worked for me for years! also if your on the autoroutes you can only do a maximum of 90ks anyway, old bill dont mind that. and you can get done with a fixed camera,on n330 heading to ermononaville near senlis,(older drivers will know it as the ho chi min),there is a fixed camera set at 70kms per hr near the sandcastle,a driver i work with got knicked by that one and it cost him 50euros, but if your being a good boy and keeping to the speed limits or there abouts whats the problem? you cant blame the french.they aint picking on us unfortunatly the locals only have 2 speeds…launch and crash…they are the ones they are after,
