Speed camera

It’ll be fine mate.

I got flashed at 56 in a 40 the other day, not really concerned that I’ll get done for it. They go off for no reason all over the place. Same as traffic light cameras.

Hmmm… :stuck_out_tongue:

On the topic of speed cameras, my folks live on the Isle of Man, where there is only one fixed speed camera.

If it catches you speeding, there’s no fine, no points… Just a letter gently reminding you of the speed limit through built up areas. And strangely enough, outside the TT races, the road safety record on the island is excellent. Probably because people are taught to watch the road and concentrate on driving the ■■■■ car instead of spending 80% of their time watching the speedo for fear of prosecution…

I have a clean licence now but god clocked the same by a gun he took off 10% speedo inaccuracy and put 31 on my ticket, nice off him that.

Sounds like you’ve been had with that one.

Why did the officer not just say ‘‘you were speeding at 34 here’s your ticket’’ thats it rather than fiddling it with the 10% malarkey and deducting it from your actual speed
If you had have gone to a lawyer i think you could have had good grounds for appeal with this one.

I don’t see how they could get away with 1 mph threshold on any speed detector device because even their machinery must have to have a fraction of movement for error (imo)

You can do upto 35 in a 30, 36 and you get done

Typical TruckNet crock of [zb].

My wife has three points on her licence for being recorded at 34mph in a 30mph zone.

So a police officer falsified an official record? If that’s true and not the usual TN BS then you should have gone to court. They have discretion wether to issue you with a ticket or words of advice. They cannot lie and alter your speed though.

I don’t know hence why I am asking you lot, maybe a TNIK nerd could help.

These cameras, how strict are they? I think I did a 32 in a 30.

Location?

What type?

Gatso, Truvelo, Mobile, Specs…

Ken.

you know what I have no clue where I was. I was heading back to the yard going along the A6 towards Loughborough then on to Oakham to get to Peterborough. All I know it was in a very tight town and as you go around a sharp bend to go up a hill the camera was right there. I wanted to pick up speed to be able to keep a steady pace to get the truck up the hill. The speedo in the merc was reading 65km and tom tom was saying 32 so I might be just under or just over. Due to tiredness and it being Friday I was just wanting to get back to the yard and get home and boy did I enjoy that sleep

Something’s adrift there, maybe you mistyped 55kph? = 34.2mph.

65kph = 40.4

Having given me the information, according to the PGPSW website, the only place where you have gone through a 30mph limit where there is a fixed 30mph camera currently registered on their database, is Melton Mowbray, as looking at all the other possible routes leading to your destination, are either covered by mobile or possible mobile cameras, or fixed cameras with higher speed limits.

What I would suggest to you guys is, if you have a sat nav, then subscribe to the PGPSW speed camera database, which is updated weekly, and while I’m not condoning speeding, as it’s easy to lose concentration for a minute, but if you have a loud audible warning attached to each camera location on your sat nav, then it switches you back on. Think it’s about £2 per month, but as a subscriber, if you find a new camera during your membership, report it, and nobody else has, you get a 12 month subscription free.

Think about it. £2 per month and a clean licence, or £60 and 3 points…Mmmmmm…

Luckily because I’m a lifetime member due to my constant spotting of new cameras, and I qualify under the old lifetime rules, I get mine free…

I can ensure you it’s not tn bs. I have no reasons to make something up like that it doesn’t make me look big or clever so I have nothing to gain by coming up with it. At the time I had only just turned 18,if it had happened now at that speed I would politely decline the ticket and go to court. It happened 3 weeks before I started my c1 lessons, I even pleaded with the copper and told him this but to no avail. Maybe he hadn’t fulfilled his credits quota for the month or just being young and a bit wet behind the ears I was easy pickings.

A lad in the village got clocked at 112mph on the A50 but the nice policeman wrote 99.8 on the summons. It saves a ban and gives you prizes instead.

Not sure where he got .8 from but Jim was happy to accept it.

My Sat Nav came with camera locations audible warnings on as new, ie free

Yes, so did mine, but I disabled them in favour of the PGPSW ones.

When your freebie runs out, you’ll have to pay your sat nav company for them anyhow.

Although the ticket may say she was doing 34mph, The calculations will have already been taken into account. 39 mph -5% speedo tolerance, -5% gatso tolerance, -■■% police/partnership allowance = 34mph.
It really does depend on where you are though. some 40mph gatsos won’t trigger until 50mph+, others will be much lower.

They do prosecute people in the IOM for driving too fast. But the charge is more likely to be ‘Dangerous Driving’… it’s mostly left to the discretion of the local plod.

A few have touched on the “Awareness Courses”… it will come down to local policy. In North Yorkshire the police have recently invested in three new safety camera vans - these are funded by taking a share of the proceeds from the awareness courses - making the vans self funding… so - North Yorks Police love minor infringements such as 32 in 30, because that makes a perfect candidate for the cash-cow.

Where the vans don’t need paying for (where they don’t exist), it will depend on the local attitude of the Chief Constable, rather than guidelines handed down from above - each have their own agenda and stats to satisfy.

You can rest assured, cash flow and politics play a critical role in such minor infringements - much more than safety issues.

My insurance company told me that although a speeding offence only “active” on your licence for three years, they hold it against you for five ■■■■■■■ years!,and I didn’t notice any particular decrease in rates after that time.Kicked them into touch right smartish!

Hey Micky . Tell your not at wiseman s anymore .lol
