Speed camera mistakes, when driver lorry

whe we drive car and overspeed, penalty to you sent if was driving (in single carigway limit 60 m/h) 63 or 64 miles.3-4 miles to camera mistakes.but if lorry driver drive in single carigway 443 or 44 it will be ok or sent penalty from 41 m/h

If you exceed the limit by more than 10% expect a ticket.

Re speeding, i think it used to be 10% plus two ie 50 zone, 57 60 zone 68 etc. but with modern vehicles, I very much doubt they would be a 10% margin.

but 3 or 4 mph over should be ok in a 40

The ACPO guidelines are still 10% + 2 mph and the speedometers in modern vehicles are not really any more accurate than they have ever been. They have a tolerance of ±10% but are not allowed by law to under read so will always have a margin of over read built in to avoid this. Far to expensive for a manufacturer to fit a truly accurate speedometer and comply with the regulation to not under read when there are variables such as tyre diameter in play.

Try Limehouse Tunnel - 31 and you get a picture :grimacing:

Yes, also most manufacturers will offer ‘wheel upgrades’ ie 15" to 17", do you think they’d recalibrate the speedo for all of these? No, the speedo is made so that the biggest wheels with biggest tyres that they authorise (usually a sticker with tyre pressures which will show all authorised sizes of wheel / tyres) will not under read

You could check your speedo reading against the reading from a sat=nav. The sat=nav will be spot on.unless in a tunnel.

Some yrs ago i got a fine off a speed camera for exceeding 30mph,when the gaffer checked my tachos 5 mins both sides of the time stated on the ticket the max i was travelling was 34mph.
regards dave.

its actually down to each individual police force how much of a margin they put in. most are 10% + 2 but i have heard of 10% + 3 and of course, 10% + 0

i should maybe borrow a satnav to see how far out my speedo is with the bigger tyres i put on the bigger alloys recently

Do a search on google, there’s a website with a calculation, you put in the orig size tyres, then your new size tyres and it’ll tell you the speedo read difference.

Something like this

Or unless going up or down a hill. But not by much. A 25% (for instance) gradient puts the sat nav out by roughly 3%, so still much more accurate than the average car speedo.

(Maths was never my strong subject so feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

Isn’t it to do with the fact that wagon Speedo’s are far more accurate, as they had to be when the speedo also housed the Tacho?

Most of us coming down a 1 in 4 (25%) gradient fully freighted will have other things on our mind than GATSO’s.

Yeah, but loads of time to watch for them on the way up though.

The GATSO on the A69 in the dip between Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle does you at 42mph.

Was warned about this a while back.

Static camera’s like Gatso’s have a low threshold, camera vans tend to give you more leeway and patrol cars are open to discretion but usually the police are only interested in those taking the p out of the limits.

In this day and age you would have to be a idiot to get done by a Gatso. They have to be visible and roads are clearly signed of their presence.
