SPEED CAMERA A47 Thorney toll cambridgeshire

Just received a notice of intended prosecution for speeding “exceed 40mph for a goods vehicle” on a single carriageway
question is can a speed camera tell what type of vehicle has passed ? as that section of road is a national speed limit 60 mph.

Obviously yes, otherwise it wouldn’t have flashed you. The one on the A505, also in Cambridgeshire, between Duxford and Royston worked the same way when it was there. There was a reflective plate near it which identified the size of the vehicle. When they check the number plate it will either identify it as HGV or PSV or caravan etc.

Size sensitive cameras have been out for at least 20 years, some of our lads got nicked on the one at the bottom of the long hill near Elton on the A605 'tween Oundle and Peterborough, and that camera was removed many years ago.

ANPR speed cameras can tell exactly what vehicle it is within a second as long as the number plate is readable

Curious - why were you over the limit ?

Speeding?

I’ll get me coat

Presumably Tesco, Asda and the tractors were not working that day. I have driven from Guyhirn to Thorney at 25mph on many occasions.

imm assuming it was pre speed limit increases ?

Presumably the offence occured before April 6th.

The (Alleged) offence was the end of march and why was i speeding ?..well you know how it is,the sun was shining the Eddie stobart trucking cd was on full blast and not a tractor in sight !

I was wondering who might be the last to get an SP10 under the old law. I presume you weren’t doing more than 50 but the law was the law unf.

What does a normal camera do,takes pictures,“speed cameras” can clock you further back than great deal of people think, enough time to register the type of vehicle approaching, same as a camera you are going away from.
Been there got the "T shirt " as the saying goes and had a SAC in Northampton instead of 3 spots & 60
