Special Ford Transcon

OK if you lot can’t help me I give up. For a very long time I’ve wondered what happened to a wagon I drove in the late 80s. A wagon particularly close to my heart. It was a Ford Transcon that had been extended somewhat. I know she hasn’t been registered since the early 90s so I fear the worst but I’ve never been able to find out for sure. Anyone know?

I’m fairly sure this old lady went on fire whilst under the ownership of Tommy Dodds, last time I saw it was in Reggio d’ Calabria & I supplied Tommy with a ROR bearing kit for its trailing axle, happy days!! Last time I saw Tommy he was driving for that Belgium crowd with the white & green tippers I think it would have been 94ish the last time I saw the old Fordtrotter. How did you find driving it? I seem to remember it being a pig in the wet. I sort of recall Ronnie Parrish having it for a spell before Doddsy but I’ve got a smokedamaged brain so am not 100% about that.

I seem to remember this old lady going on fire whilst under the ownership of Tommy Dodds, I last saw it around 94 in Reggio d’ Calabria & had an afternoon fitting a ROR wheelbearing to its trailing axle. my smokedamaged brain tells me Ron Parrish had it for a spell but don’t hold me to that. I do remember it being a pig to handle in the wet, how did you manage with it? Hope it helps.

Thats the second time I heard it had burned although it was only hearsay before :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Never heard of either of those guys but she handled ok for me except the time a wheel bearing went on the Friday before Easter in Bayonne. Could I get a fitter until after Easter■■? Naa could I hell so I had a holiday in a service station at Bidart.

Nothing unusual about a fire in a Transcon, wheelbearings a fairly common occurance too, & plenty of wheelstuds as I recall. I’m positive it went up in flames, my own Transcon ended up being exported to Russia of all places. If I could get motivated I’d post a pic.

Just found another pic of the old gal on Euro Wheels
