Spare pair of glasses?

Is it law in the UK to carry a spare pair of glasses if u need to wear driving glasses??I was told by another driver u do. I carry a spare pair anyway in case something happens the pair I wear. It makes sense because I would say if u crashed with wearing glasses the insurance would likely walk away from u.

It is law in Spain to have a spare pair of goggles.

If you’ve got the 01 code on your licence you need glasses/lenses to drive if you don’t have your glasses or contact or break/lose your glasses your not allowed to drive so makes common sense to carry a spare set
It’s not illegal not to but its Illegal to drive without them

There was a thing last year with welsh police doing road side sight checks and possibility of removal of licence of those who couldn’t pass

Was law in Spain even before E U !

I think It’s more a case of common sense, if you need them to pass your medical, you need to have a spare pair if your driving. I carry them in the lorry and car.

I carry my reading glasses, and my long sight ones cos DVLA told me i had to, but my eyes are fine without them, and yes i can read a number plate at 3.5 miles in the dark when its foggy

It’s law in France as well. And just basic common sense in the UK.

Illegal to drive without if you have 01 code not illegal to drive with out a spare set but a good idea to have a spare set just incase

As others have said it’s not illegal not to carry a spare pair of glasses in the UK, but if you’ve got code 01 on your licence and you break the ones you’re wearing you’re screwed if you haven’t got a spare pair with you.

I have to wear them 01 code on all categories. I keep in my cab my prescription sunglasses, a spare pair off glasses(my old prescription) and the ones I wear. If I brake the ones I’m wearing I have the spares there still good enough to get me through the day without hitting anything. It’s stupid not to carry a spare especially if you struggle to see without them. If you brake them you have 2 choices carry on and hope you don’t hit anything or get tugged or park the motor up where it is and start walking back to the yard.

It is more a case of common sense. What if you break it, or lose it.
In Spain since 1997 is not compulsory to carry a spare pair of glasses, but highly advisable, just in case.
Plain as the nose of your face.
