some time ago i needed a spare key for her car. the dealer wanted £150. he got told to [zb] off.
it got me thinking, how much do scania, daf, volvo, or man charge for truck keys?
there is a bloke who sets up on a car boot sale near where i live. he copies keys from £1 for a yale house key to a maximum of £30 for a coded key.
at prices like that, it’s worth getting one before you need one.
I paid £80 for a ford one, the fella came to my house and did it and was very negotiable with the price. As you say Phil fords wanted £150.
Audi wanted 140 for the key and 30 quid to program it and this was about three years ago. Got it done by a local bloke 50 quid all in.
I’d imagine truck ones would be about the same sort of money.
On trucks that needed the engine running for PTO, ie transporters, we had cheap copies of the coded key done at the local locksmiths for a fiver or so, never intended to start the vehicle and obviously wouldn’t, but meant you could keep the doors locked whilst doing your work, and if you lost the door only key it wasn’t the end of the world plus by doing this no chance of getting locked out with keys inside…plippered Scanias sometimes known to lock themselves.
What i did find up to about 3 years ago my very good locksmiths could not obtain the correct blanks for Scanias anywhere, so we had to take the second coded key for this purpose…not ideal but better than scum rifling through your kit whilst you worked hard to keep them in benefits…
Volvos no problem, easy blank, don’t know about the other makes.
The problem is the vehicles where you have to plug it in and program the vehicle to accept the keys.
