What if a driver wants to load and unload?
I’ve got a great idea, let’s invite the government to rule over every little aspect of life?

Carryfast would be a founding member.

Star down under.:

great idea then when it all falls off your not liable

It’s a bit of exercise and looking at some of you fatties behind the wheel I think it should be compulsory you load and tip by yourself!

Seriously I enjoy a bit of manual labour, nowadays i do shop deliverys and pulling cages off is a bit of a work out and keeps me fit.

So come one think of your health and stop being a bunch of lazy fat barstools

When I collected onions out of La Pobla de Villabona Valencia, they loaded them on the back door but for the UK markets on night shifts it was a pain , tall and flimsy pallets made with what could pass a balsa wood with no strength and flimsy little bands to hold in over a ton a pallet.
On a side tip or moving around the load and shifting them with a pump truck was futile to the point I had to quit that job as I pulled a hip muscle.
Ratchet strapping fertiliser out of CF Ince in a heat wave, climbing all over the bags to position the straps through the loops at the top can take it out of anyone then the security man said I need to wear a hi viz even though I’m inside the trailer.

If we let others load up , they will trap all the internal straps at the front headboard in the stowage area or trap them under the pallets.
Timber out of Felixstowe or Ipswich docks for Longleat timber saw mills, you have to secure three levels of the load , if you don’t it will slide out through the curtains with the bulge and attract enforcement attention.
They supply a ladder on wheels to access the top of the trailer but once loaded are quite happy to let you work alone in a dock side with nobody there .

That slippery wood for kitchens where they insist on protectors on the load.

Double post .

I loaded the…

Same place on many occaisions. When I got to the market they tipped it for me. On the one occaision they didn’t want to, a ten pound note did the job just fine. I blagged the gaffer for the tenner when I got back.

More rubbish from Toby found out again

Some delivery points you had to unload from one side of the trailer at a time, so I had to move the pallets myself to position them on the side that the forky was on and vice versa and turn the lorry around to tip the other side .

The depots weren’t so obliging as the markets, especially the Cypriot owned places in London that kept me waiting hours with an excuse of it’s full up inside when it wasn’t.

Can you really see pallet hub depots staff securing double decker trailers?
At least the container drivers don’t have to touch their load .

There’s a reason that I’ve done little but tankers and fridges for the last 30 years.

Remember if all lorry driving consists of is selecting D and resume on the CC control, don’t be surprised if the job gets oversubscribed by chauffers which will lead back to lower wages.

That’s already where we’re at which is why I laugh when I hear drivers saying we should go on strike because the job is so difficult and such a huge responsibility negotiating a 44 tonne thundering juggernaut down the M1 at 56 mph. We should all stack shelves in Aldi instead ! /s

What do you mean by difficult? Many things are straightforward once you have the skill to do so, it doesn’t mean I’m going to do it all day every day for free, or that it doesn’t require a responsible attitude and concentration.

We must get out of this idea that just because many people can do a certain task, somehow means that the person actually doing it shouldn’t be paid for it.

It’s also quite obvious that those who claim to have difficult jobs, are often involved in nothing more than self-justifying theatre and makework practices, and that almost every job can be re-engineered to be straightforward.

Did you reply to the wrong post? Nowhere have I said or even suggested that we should work for free. :unamused:
