Spanish shortcuts.Routes

Does anyone use shortcut from Pamplona to Madrid via Fitero,on national 113 to Olvega,c C 101,to Almazan, then follow to Mediniceli to National 2 to Madrid.Numerous cafes and good restaurants on route, less Police presence.Apart from alchol controls in the night, and terrorist controls.
And shortcut which by passes Zarrogoza,by shaving off 30 odd miles,by turning off on the A23,Valencia to Zarragoza (Free motorway),at Carinena to La Almunia de Dona Godina(Now new by pass),to Magallon, then to Pamplona vIa Sunbilla,to France.Bumpy road in some places, may have to use middle of road to avoid lumps of melted tarmac, but it is ok.Once again, numerous places to stop for a refreshment. There is a swimming pool on this route, for the summer, ideal if weekend in a small village.Tend to see a lot of boy racers crash at night in rural areas, after night clubbing all night.
You can get a 25p/c discount at Autogrill restaurants in Spain, simply fill in a form(In English),then get a card at the tills. For truckers and ambulance drivers.Ask at any restaurant for a drivers card, where on the 5th or 6th meal you have purchased the 6th or 7th one is free.If using LD or Transmanche ferries, you get 50 euros to spend on board,on getting a card stamped for so many crossings.

Hi, I’ve used both those short cuts more times than I can count, I used to do multi drops and always had either (or both) Logrono & Mandavia and it was the logical route to Madrid, very picturesque and not too hilly.

The Carinena route I always used, one problem was the width of the road and the locals wanting to keep away from the edges, normally a 12" drop into a field!! About 1998 they opened a weighbridge on the southbound side but only saw it open a couple of times, just as well as that was where I used to take my “rolling break” !!!

Someone posted on here a while ago a route via Pamplona going South (Malaga) missing Madrid altogether ,I have always gone via Burgos,or occasionally Soria, but would be interested to know this route as I drive down to near Malaga twice a year and always get held up on the M40 in Madrid ,but last time found a shortcut near R.A.C.E which took me on the M11 and saved quite a bit of time.

basically the route is 121a irun to pamplona
A15 south from pamplona to j6, its the last exit before the A15 meets the A68.
follow that road onto the N113/N122 to agreda.
from agreda take the CL101 to almazan.
at almazan join the N111 to the A2 at medinaceli
then its the A2 to madrid, around the M50 then head south on the A4.

Still in use that weighbridge. If going other way, they spin you round on the road.Litterally get weighed,in 30 seconds, whistle blown, then sent on your way, very quicky, without a fuss.Carinena bumpy road, pot holes, and dodge traffic in middle of road.

how long is it since you used the ricla to magallon road tim?

Yea, been pulled a number of times coming home onto the weighbridge on the Teruel rd in the same manner as you mention above, U turn in and U turn out in a couple of mins.

Quite a while, methinks Steve, cos that road was retarmaced 3 years ago and is a cracking road now!!!

thats what i was thinking austin, they’d just layed the red clay down last time i did it and the road was widened by a great deal.
i didn’t see it finished but my mate from mazzaron travels it regularly still and he says its like a motorway compared to what it was.

Must have the wrong road, cos was on it end of december, last year. There was the stretch, where the tarmac has big pot holes, and melted damage, has not been repaired. And drive in middle to avoid damgage to truck. One of those villages has a new by pass.Wind turbines on your right,if coming North.

i can’t remember any wind turbines but the route i’m thinking of going south, tudela on the N232 then the N122 to the chimneys at magallon.
from chimneys on the N121 through fuendejalon which has the cemetary on the right as you leave the village heading south, is that 6 wheeler in the layby just after the cemetary thats been getting stripped for a few years still there bear.
a few miles out of town you then had the weighbridge, then a mile or so after the weighbridge the road narrowed drastically and you had about 12km of really bad potholed, narrow, badly rutted road until you got to ricla
from ricla you went through the almunia and then down to carinena where you joined the zaragoza to valencia road.
i know the new road at the bottom end from teruel to valencia, does anyone still nip in and see rosie, how are they doing now the new road bypasses them?

Thats Rosie, was she formerly from Australia,?Was still open last year, you can see the restaurant from the new A23 motorway. She offered a loan to cover costs getting back to the UK,after bandits got in cab in Valencia.Police say they were immigrants that live in the orange tree fields. And were too scared to search for them, once in a while, the cops would do a raid,to get them deported.Valencia was notorious for thieves when at a packing house, they catch you un awares, while attending to your back doors,or when you werein the warehouse.

thats the same rosie, haven’t been down there for a few years, just wondered how she’s doing.

Had no evidence, but heard some drivers getting tum problems after eating at Rosie`s.Especially in the Summer, with the flies.

always thought rosie was a kiwi , her husband always wanted english newspapers off you , only if they page 3 tho
got a bit bad for break ins at one time but i do believe it was sorted

rosie is definately australian, from some little seaside place near melbourne.
ate there many times tim and never suffered any setbacks and that sounds right about her offering a loan.
she’s a lovely woman, helped my old firm out a few times.
