Southern Ireland

Over the last few weeks a whole raft of new traffic offences (32 in total) have been brought in by the Irish Government. Does anyone know from where I can get a definitive list of these new laws?

hi click on the link and u should have all the information u need. www.transport.ie/upload/general/7262-0.pdf

Thanks Nigel that was helpful. Are the speed limits for HGV’s on both national and motorways being changed do you know?

havent heard anything bout it but will ask a few of the lads and see if they know anything.

penaltypoints.ie/ click on the underlined text in the main article.

The points are rediculous for lorries and buses not being allowed on the outside lane, for those of you that dont know irish motorways there are only 2 lanes so therefore lorries and busses only allowed in 1 lane

Ireland, you gotta love the place…distance in Km’s, speed in mph

get with it catman - speed is in kms now!

nigel

Aye, your well out of date Catman. The speeds were mostly in kmh the last time I went over there, and that was about a year ago. (Maybe not all of them then, but they were being changed over pretty quickly).

being irish myself, but now living in the uk.
i do keep up with happenings at home.
this new points system is a fiasco.
remember, they cant put points ona uk/foreign license.
the irish govenment are a muppet government run by clowns when it comes to road traffic laws.
i dont know all the pointable offences.but here goes.
1if you stop on a single or double yellow line[looking for directions etc]
2 points.
2.if you go in a yellow box at lights
2 points.[might be no harm]
although i am not driveing trucks at present,i did all my life.
most of my friends at home are truck drivers.
one of them came over to me last weekend.
he wants to change his license to a uk one.
they cant put points on it.
he has just got to use my address.
i know this is not appreciated by a lot of more legal minded people, but.
the road accidents in ireland are bad.
we have an count of11 people per 100,00 getting killed on the roads.
the resytof europe uk included have an average of 6 per 100,000.the prob in ireland is the roads.
the government blame drinking/speeding.
its the roads.
now there are some motorways, and you cant go ing the outside lane in a hgv.
stuck behind granny for miles.
i drove in ireland in the late 70s,for about 2 yrs.
i had enough of it.
i went on the continent and stayed there up to 5 yrs ago.
i would never work ireland again.
the onkly way to go to ireland and drive around is in your car or campervan.
as for driving 44tonne.
never.
i know ireland like the back of my hand been born and worked there.
the kilometes road signs are ok,as i drove more in europe then home.
