hi dave,
now here’s a puzzle.who owned this atki?seen next to my car in the summer of 1983,she was loaded and sheeted, ready to roll, but left abandoned on stormy down for months.nvj 638m?,i can’t recall a welsh haulier by the name of elliotts and certainley not one that was a member of the ta (see yellow logo on cab)if it wasn’t for the name,i would have said that this was one of caswell’s
can anyone shed any light on this?
NVJ was a Hereford number Andrew, but can’t shed any more light on anything about the Atki.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Dave , i have an idea that Atki was ex Elliotts of Newport who did quite a lot of Monsanto work . The Hereford registration stands out as an ex of Scandrett of Leominster possibly. regards kk
Don’t remember them KK,from 1971 until 1979 I was out of the lorry scene, getting to grips with a lot of other issues, nothing to dramatic, but time consuming.
Cheers Dave.
‘loaded and abandoned for months’ oh how things have changed. Wonder how long it’d stay in one piece these days.

hi chalkie,
if this is the same firm? that i am thinking of,they did bell containers when i was a kid in the 1970’s.there is an f88 of theirs on here somewhere.thanks.
regards andrew
yes it is, i think i pinched it from here to put on the bell lines thread…my grandfather drove for them in bells many years ago… photos of this firm are very rare…thanks paul…
hi paul,
during the early-mid 1970’s our family business was located on an old aerodrome at stormy down and right by our building was a concrete ramp.the bell line hauliers used to tip zinc ingots all the time.pretty much every day,as i recall?joseph fish and many others firms regularly did this work, including john beynon evans.the ingots were then stored in j&m transport’s large hanger and were then delivered to burry port, near pembrey by them.i used to watch the que of lorries, all day sometimes
.i just wish i had taken photos.i think the ingots were shipped from burry port to ireland?though i am not positive about this.i remember j+m’s foreman billy morgan telling me that there was over 60,000 tonnes of ingots in that hanger.thanks.
regards andrew
hi chalkie,
i did put this j&m volvo brochure on page 2,on my system it has gone? photobucket ?so here it is again.

Hi all, Andrew have to agree about those V6 motors, although it was a 1729 and 1733s that I had experience with.
What happened to Blue Line, reading between the lines on here they had some tie up with Cardiff Transport in the end!
Didn’t Julian Hodge get invlolved in 1984?
Regards Paul
