kelsan erf 410 just picked up a dfds trailer in immingham, the coldest night out i have ever had in any truck ever! .
kelsan replaced the 410 with this 500 olympic, seen here around 2002 with part of a large baler/frag.
This at first glance looks like a Leyland Octopus, but the badge says Albion Caledonian, the reason for this was
Albion still had a strong following and many customers only wanted Albion products, so leyland gave in and
introduced the Caledonian in 1957, it had Leyland cab,600 engine, leyland 5 speed gearbox,
everything else was pure Albion, chassis, this was bolted Leylands were riveted, axles althouth very sturdy were
lighter than the octopus, and many drivers said the Albion handled better than the Leyland
hi andrew and graham
s protheroe porthcawl ran stone from neath area to the deep water harbour port talbot, they ran ex brs bristols and the old 8 wheelers they had finished long dstance with when they went over to artics, the name pascoe does not ring a bell. northways was a name protheroe’s gave to the fleet they bought from clifford powell from caldicot for tax reasons.I drove the beaver in the photo of the yard.

im almost sure it was for c110 when me and martin potter arrived at assetwells yard they despatched a forklift to the other yard with hot axe man forky found 6 wheeler merc and lifted up whilest hot axe man stood underneath me and martin looked at each other and decided it might be wise to have a look around yard and beat a hasty retreat peering around a corner waiting for hot axe man to become screaming in pain man and by the way i would never have mentioned you driving over wooden pit boards covering apit in a 7 ton tractor unit
regards martyn.
.hi all,
thanks for not mentioning that mistake of mine martyn
.i may have a photo of rth.stuck down the pit somewhere
.here’s a couple of faces you will recognise.for any others that don’t, davies bros.were based in south cornelly and had skips and tippers.they kept the yard brush painted fleet going with green? recycled parts
.they sold out to uk waste in 1992 for a serious chunk of change
.pictured below on the day the sale went through are, dai. ginger davies (wearing a suit) and his mate mike standen.
i think davies bros. had four of these little fiat luggers.this particular one was driven by long term employee phil warwick and i think? was the only one to still have the original fiat motor.the rest had been converted in davies’ doorless workshop to leyland power.

Another trip to Jeff Ways has turned up somemore gems!
A ray of hope to save the Mickey Mouse Foden. Spoke to Jeff yesterday and he tells me has had two enquiries to buy her as a complete lump. Both are up country so there might be a delay because of the weather etc. But fingers crossed she will be one of only a small amount of vehicles to ever be ‘sprung’ from this garden of doom.
where about is jeff ways yard please regards martyn
Hi Sammy Dog. Take A470 North off junc 32 M4, take 3rd exit off, take old road through Rhydyfelin(behind Upper Boat Pub) go about 1.5 miles, just before road bears to right to go under the A470, take a left off that bend and go over a narrow steel bridge over the river. Park at the end and go through where there is an old trailer blocking the way. Good hunting!
cheers malcolm ill pop up and have a look looking for something else once the massey is finished.regards martyn.
Hey Sammy Dog, you won’t find much saveable there, except one or two in the inner sanctum. There are some good projects around? why not look at that ex Crown Brewery Ergo Mercury? ex three pod tanker? thats still for sale. Let me know what you fancy.
