Hi All,
Seasons Greetings to everyone,an excellent thread.

Can anyone remember A Hutchinson Transport from Cardiff I think they were in East Canal Wharf ?

Regards
Richard

Yes, I remember Hutchinsons. East canal wharf off bute street, then took over James Clarks depot in James Street about 1970, then moved to Dumballs road. Trunked from Cardiff to Newcastle every night with AEC Marshalls, and a couple of Mammoth Minor units. Local collection lorries were mainly BMC/Leyland. Finished about ten years ago I think.

Hi emmerson2,
Thanks for the information,I ran one of their old AEC Marshalls on round timber back in the early 70’s here’s a couple of pics of her.

Rchard

Hi Richard. I thought that old girl had gone for scrap when it was p/ex’d for a Marshall Major (standard marshall, but with 760 engine instead of the 505) in '72. I spent many hours spannering her! Took it off the road after the first year at 100,000miles, overhauled everything and put her back into service for another year. Kuh 787f was the first AEC Hutchinson bought, and he had at least one new one every year, all the Marshalls exactly exactly the same. We also had three Mercurys. All were bought from CV (sales & repairs) ltd in Cardiff, and the triple dropside bodies were built in Newcastle. They were then lightly loaded, and I went up and drove all the new lorries gently home, therefore assuring that at least the first few hundred miles were taken easy.
I’ve got no pictures, I’m afraid, just lots of memories, good and bad!

Anyone remember or have photos of a company called Jacksons from Nelson, mid Glamorgan. They had a Rolls engined AEC Mandator amongst others and did work for Hoover [Merthyr Tydfil] with some special trailers?
Neil.

hello neil.
i can remember herbie jackson from late fifties to early sixties,he had a thames trader four wheeler and used to park it by the first house off the roundabout on the nelson by-pass,i think i am right and i am open to correction that jacksons moved up to long row nelson for a while to where the small tool hire premises are now.but years ago the tool hire place was the operating centre for hawthorn transport.thats the best i can do neil.
regards graham.

Thanks Graham, I was talking to one of their ex-drivers today. He said the Hoover trailers had rounded front panels and multi decks.
