South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

komatsu 450:

Great material from pete359 and Komatsu 450. Those gwent hauliers, were major players in RTBs Ebbw Vale. Evans of Tredegar bought a F86 S reg off my cousin ex HY-MAC. She had stood for a while, but I believe they were going to tidy it up and put it back on the road. I wonder what happened to it.
Great memories, of riding with my father, cousin and their drivers alongside all these companies.
Cheers Paul

hi dennis,
thanks for the comments mate.i have as you can probably imagine, plenty more of joints in my collection of albums,it’s good to hear that the pictures are of interest.you are quite right in saying they were a proper haulier.

I know I give you stick on the sheeting and roping/presentation of the motors ect. but I would be more at home in the “Joints” yard than these PC depots that have become the norm now-a-days!!! I am defo a dying breed!!!Cheers Dennis.

totally agree with you dennis,i would think it’s fair to say that by the photos of the bewick operation, the impressive sheeting and overall vehicle presentation would tell me that you had come across and indeed employed many proper drivers during your career.these in my view are also a fast dying breed, having been replaced by the modern tautliner automatic gearbox box steering wheel attendants :frowning: .

Hiya all, My first night of actually posting on here… Loving the ‘Thread’, but Question 1 - How do i upload photo’s ? Have got photobucket but still cant work it out  Any help would be gratefull. Regards - Will

Hi Andrew
During my years with Glyn John,we used to deliver disposable nappies to a factory next to Gerald Evans’ yard and at that time (1986~7)he ran two transcons in a rather drab mustard colour. There was also a green+white transcon rotting away in a corner of the yard with a cracking pair of air horns that i tried to persuade him to part with but to no avail :frowning: Great to see those old photos of Ely Transport.keep em coming mate.
Regards Mark

hi will,
it took me forever to load the photos.there are instructions at the top of the page.in a nut shell this is how i do it:
1)create a photobucket account.
2)use the photobucket toolbar to load your photos into photobucket.
3)below each photo is a box with some options, double click bottom option,it then turns blue.right click and select copy.
4)after you finish writing your text in the “post a reply” message box, left click album, then right click paste.
5)click submit, your wording and photo will appear.
good luck and thanks for posting,i look forward to seeing your pictures    .
regards andrew

Hi Andrew and Mark, I remember GDE’s transcons and an A series ERF, which was used for shunting ia Stateler pens. The last motor I remember on the road was an E series ERF also mustard/ yellow in colour, running under the Pontyclun Van Hire name.
Regards Paul

my mate ted hamm had the d series artic seen here on the right (bny 908j) brand new for wick transport.

these two photos were amongst the large pile loaned by ted and were stuck together,so i didn’t like to seperate them,no information on either the f88 or the atki.do either ring any bells with anyone?
