a scania and a “trabant”,as the celtic boys call their renault premium’s.
an eight wheeler trabant.

to be fair, these trabants have the 460 volvo engine and the brilliant i shift,so they go fairly well.

i see these trucks everyday coming into south cornelly, noticed a smart fh this afternoon![]()
a customer of ours that runs an identical outfit to this one tells me these motors are 22 tonnes empty.
Andrew thanks for that pic mate. As it happens it was July 1982 I started at Alan Price & sons, the tel No is still the same. All their work then prior to the miners strike was local, I left for the smoke looking to gain more experience and go over the water.
Graham, you have a great memory, the nelson bog Wow! By road you could access the bog opposite Penallta colliery, which along with Abernant were the main blending plants. You will probably remember, K+J plant hire, Shorts, Cossletts and Taff plant hire all working in that area.
That hill going out of Bedlinog would of taken its toll on all those trucks, just as the slip road did running 8 trips / day out of Merthyr Vale to the shale tips.
REgards Paul
I posted these on the Border thread last night,as Graham is a South Wales man, here they are.
Graham arriving with his ■■■■■■ vehicle in front at the Strinds/Dolyhir quarries on the Welsh Border, near Kington.
Graham was fetching a Locotrack crusher to the quarry.
Seen below is a similar Locotrack crusher to the one Graham was carrying.

Hi Lads
The K series Dodge that was spotted one early morning in Llantwit Fardre is mine!,and i was taking it to Llantrisant Testing station to get an MOT,it is just a chassis cab at the moment and i am having problems getting it MOT’d because i had the by the book MOT inspector who said as it was not capable of carrying a load he could not MOT it.told him it was in memory of my grandfather and would never be used apart from shows but to no avail.
Bought from Castle Carey, whilst i was at the testing station one of the inspectors asked who owned the Dodge and when i said it was mine he said he could remember working on it in Tondu garages as it was new to the National Coal Board and he still had work shop paperwork for it! So i’ve brought her back home.Showed her at my local car show in Tonyrefail last year and a fella came up to me and said he could remember driving it for the National Coal Board and she was one of three new to the NCB GHB 333N GHB 334N and mine GHB335N.Hope this helps solve the mystery.
Hopefully get an MOT this Summer and make the V8 540 turbo sing!
I am glad I was not losing my marbles
I guessed it was running down to the MOT station. Well done Yanto36, cant wait to see it in daylight in the flesh.
Hiya …stick a van body on your dodge put some seats and a cooker in the van with a bed and its mot exempt its a living van and cannot carry a load.
if you look around there are loads of logs with a caravan hideing inside. my mate has a tipper trailer fitted out and thats mot exempt.
good luck beat the system.
JohnMalcolm, well spotted, not a skip but a 6x4 tractor. Well a 6x4 tipper chassis cut down to a tractor.
yanto 36, I would not want to take advantage of pete359 good nature or put him on the spot, but he has a wealth of knowledge regarding show trucks and may be able to advise you with the plating problems along with other members of this site.
Good Luck Paul
It was a dark wet morning and it was in a convoy of wagons, and at 7.15 my eyes were’nt quite open!!! There are now 265 Commercials on the Caitlin House register, this will be the only Dodge, fantastic effort! Could it still have a tipper body fitted?, or is it now too short?
Hi Malcolm, she is to the spec that dodge used to offer ie short wheelbase so she is long enough to put a tipper body on and i would love to do that but i want to put a telehoist body on so it is like the one my grandfather and father operated but you have to eat the elephant in small chunks!!

hello dai,
now the penny has dropped, bill evans,i think he was known as curly bill?my father has mentioned him to me many times.his son alan did work for joints on the road and in their office.by coincidence bill’s grandson mark came into see me yesterday after he had an acccident with a large branch that fell off a tree, causing a fair amount of damage to his boss’ fh,as can be seen.
pete 359:
Hi Andrew,
Did Mark with the tarmac FH have his altercation with the tree branch near Staunton On Wye A438 Hereford-Brecon road.
I came up that road yesterday and could see where part of a tree had come down, also skid marks from a lorry.
So putting two and two together after seeing your pics,(and probably making five )as a lot of the South Cornelly boys are still working from these quarries every day.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Andrew,
It loked like a biggish part of a fir tree had come down,it wasn’t there on sunday. We saw it yesterday,it must have blown down in front of him, although it is also just over the brow of a small rise,so he wouldn’'t have a chance of stopping.
Cheers Dave.
