Is this not an ex WT Davies unit, iirc they had a Volvo in amongst the Scanias. Does anyone remember their flagship 143 heavy hauler.
Unfortunatly they showcased it at the front of their building on Penarth road, and someone took a fancy to it. I dont think it was found.
hi paul,
yes,you are right that f10 was ex w.t. davies, they also had the first roadtrains and constructors that i ever saw.they are as you may be aware long gone,a land rover dealership is now located at their former yard.
the following two images are of two foden tippers owned by nantycaws based richard jones, his father owned ironrails bulk transport who i remember well, they ran marathons and roadtrain artic tippers.

Andrew, thanks for the reply, I had heard WT Davies were no longer in business thats another family concern gone.
They owned Telford trucks when it was a Leyland dealership, which is why they ran roadtrains and constructors, later switching to Scania hence the large number of Scanias they ran late 80s.
They were a succesful excavation and plant hire company, but when they ventured into tippers and 3rd party bulk haulage they seemed to be out of their depth.
Every now and then I used to drink with their fitters and drivers, and a bunch of guys from Hills in the Cardiff Bay Club ( old Currans club) on Penarth rd.
i wonder if any1 knows, has ken from tripleccc passed away i was told this in gordano services by the man who runs the cb shop just wondering if this is true thanks

hereâs one of kbhsâ man tga units that left us yesterday.
Hiya Andrew !Hope you have had a good Bar-b que! we have! I was most impressed to catch a glimpes of the sign you have at the workshop entrance to direct visitors to the office! I should have thought of that years ago as I often had to root a Bd salesman out of it when they had just waltzed into the workshop and started pitching their B*s to the fitters!!!Regards Dennis.

hi dennis,
yes,we had to put that barrier up several years ago.mainly to stop members of the public injuring themselves as so many people fail to see the potential dangers in a workshop environment.we have had some colourful experiences over the years with people wandering in and going straight to the welder and watching the tig/mig flash.then wonder why their eyes hurt. with regard to the man,i dare say you knew browns (the former owner of the truck) well, they had a large well presented fleet for many years.apparantley they have kept two artics and all the warehousing, and dennis, who could blame them.
hi all,
here is a picture of my mate stanâs ex a.s.griffiths 112 scania queing for the weighbridge in 1996 to tip abbey coil at a steel drop in northern italy.the gap european coiler has a good well with two medium sized coils, probably around 22-24 tonnes.the maximum at the then 38 tonne gross.
by comparison here are two italianâs at the same drop.this time a flat trailer, coils chocked with timber and a hell of a lot more weight on the italianâs than stanley had.
a couple more from the thousands of jointâs photoâs i took over the years.a31 twn a 290 â â â â â â â pwered 401seddon atkinson tipping pelletised slag in cornelly quarry back in 1987.
a merc. benz 1633s,rth 543y was bought new by joints in the spring of 1983,just as the armitage law came in and the weight limit was raised to 38 tonnes on five axles.seen here at the yard.
