John Morgan:
Hi AndrewI think he had 4 atki`s in total - The one pictured was bought new from Horris Edwards when Telfords were atki dealers. I think it was driven by Ronny Nichold from Llantwit major.
I have found boxes of old pictures and they will take some sorting through - Ilast few for tonight - The old Yard before t was full!!
I think the one on the right is Ginger Grant will ask the old man the others names in the morning.
hi John
cracking photos mate, keep em coming.Been a big fan of your dads firm from my younger days as an apprentice fitter on Bryn Pica opencast site in the late 70’s-early 80’s when i first saw the Mack and the Kenworth bringing machines on site. Always knew he had a varied fleet but never knew how varied until you started putting these splendid photos on.Used to see most of the “heavies” about the place but never saw the tippers or the smaller artics until now. Some real nostalgic shots there John.look forward to seeing some more to change the subject for a min,i used to work with Darren(the dap)Williams and Tony(the executive)Phillips when i drove for Chris Morgan. I think Tony’s retired now and the last time i saw Darren he was driving a crane for R W Christopher but that was a few years ago.i still keep an eye out for him when i pass an RWC crane but i think he’s moved on
I expect you’ll remember Jim Wright too? havent seen him since my days with CMT. He’ll be long retired now i should think
regards Mark

Great photo of what’s possibly the end of a hard days work.BRS supplied vehicles to Britton Ferry on contract. BRS (Contracts) Ltd I think operated around 3,000 vehicles, many in the London area and usually had the letter C in front of the fleet number, most were painted in the customers colours but a few were painted in a standard colour of contract green body and cab, red wheels and black wings, usually these were spare vehicles.
Hello, heres a few old welsh DAFs

This wagon was new to “Sykes Bulk Liquids” and a mate of mine big Gordon had it new there was also 703 Trevor, 704 Alec ,705 Peter and 706 Mick and had the 290 rolls in and the bunks could be made into a double bed if need be. Marc you amaze me every day with your little jewels
Cheers Johnnie

Another EX1800 being Delivered. This time Driven by Darren Williams and matted by Ian Boon from Pyle I think. You can see how the Modular axles are twisting on the Univen ground but all tyres still in contact. The other shot is of the ex Sunters MAN which I thin k Keedwell might still have. She was one of a pair buyilt for sunters. One of my Favourite trucks and fitted with a ZF transmatic gearbox. I think she is carrying an NCK 1405 - Grossing around the 150 ton mark… I dont think there was a weighbridge that could have weighed them anyway! I remember Kings of Bristol complaying to the ministry that we were carrying them with the tracks on @ 16 foot 5 wide! Another special order movement.
Hi John that MAN looks as though it was one of second or third lot which Pickfords had as the first batch had the sliding doors did they still have the column mounted gear stick and only a five speed box with a torque converter as the first lot did as I had left when they were in service so I do not know to much about them
cheers Johnnie

Hi Johnnie
They had a stick that was in the normal position but a bit like a H pattern EPS if that makes sence. The Box was a ZF Transmatic which had an integral Torque convertor - that was 8 speed I think from memory with locking diffs in all the axles. The gearbox was so easy to use & super Smooth. The whole thing was of far superior Quality than the Scania setup in my opinion. There was quite a lot written on them in one of Bob Tucks old books. The front and rear hitches had a 1500 ton rating. I think the Jumbo & the Nicholas Tractomas were probably the best Heavy tractors you could buy but were nearly £250k when new when the Scania was 98k I think.
Has Keedwell still got her Andrew?
Cheers
John
