carlisle based browns transport recently had a large sale after deciding to close the doors after many years in business.andrew thomas who owns cross hands based kbhs bulk transport attended this sale and bought this tga xxl and another identical sister unit.they will both be painted by us over the next three weeks.
i think? that this is tony morgan’s old kenworth, seen at a german service area a good few years ago.
no south wales haulage thread would be complete without mention of the mclennan bros. from port talbot.huw and george were identical twins and bent/broke every rule in the haulage book.for many years they ran from south wales to the middle east, with a 1632 merc (that the manufacturer later bought back) and a couple of f88’s.my dear departed friend sid evans ran down the middle east with them for a long time, there are many old middle east drivers who have many tales to tell about these twins.here one of the twins (in white jacket) is looking at the remains of sid’s ex a.s. griffiths 111 after she had the accident in yugoslavia mentioned earlier.
this well travelled 1632 merc of the mclennan twins was bought back by mercedes and taken to germany where the engineers found negative wear on all of the engines internals, even though it had done a collosal mileage.this photo was taken by sid evans in the cab of his f88,somewhere between south wales and the middle east.
sid’s old f88 gaf 351n? (sorry about the poor quality picture)this truck dropped a valve during december 1986 on tahir pass in eastern turkey and sid spent xmas day changing the piston and liner.he got home in the second week of february.
the remains of sid’s old 111,after the yugo. incident.
