One for Andrew off topic I,m afraid , I posted this in the main forum. As your a body work man how do you change the N/S corner section of bumper on a Volvo FM version 2, 3 piece steel bumper. Had a mis-hap and need to fit new section. Once again apologies for the off topic invasion.
Excellant thread one of the three I read everyday along with Dave the Renegades and Scrapbook memories.
i like the latest batch of photos my dad would have liked to have seen them,as he drove for the NCB and i remember him saying about a crusader with the winding gear. He drove for Howell richards and Bayliss for a bit back in the day.
Suedehead:
Glyn John Transport ? cant remember exactly where they were from - used to run a few Transcons - late 70s.
Also Blue Line from Tondu ? (spelling)
Glyn John were based near Pontypridd and owned by Liners who made products from gelatine. They bought Ely Transport who were based at Culverhouse Cross at the top of Cardiff (now a big roundabout with BnQ on it).
Glyn John ran Seddon Atkis, Ely had Volvos, F86 and F88s a few Ford Transcontis and old AECs. In the 90s they moved to the Docks and had Ivecos and Mercs. then bought by a Manchester group BFI, who also bought Febrys, Prices amongst others and them closed the lot of them.
Blue Line tan Atkinsin Borderers out of Margam steel works.
hi merlin,i used to drive for Glyn John from 85 to 89 out of cardiff docks. when i started they were owned by BFI but shortly afterwards were taken over by RENWICKS FREIGHT(with the beaver on the logo)it was they who bought out FEBRYS,PRICES EVANS OF TREDEGAR & A.R.S of hereford. I left at the end of 89(shortly after the arrival of the first mercs delivered to GJT) to join Chris Morgan Transport on low-loader work. about one year later RENWICKS closed down GJT and sold the yard to ryans to stockpile coal. very sad end to a long standing company.

hi all,
as i mentioned earlier,on friday a gang of us went with our classic trucks to the very good malvern auction/enthusiasts day.thanks to my good mate and trucknet member steelboyf10 for his usual âarrangements expertiseâ we were all housed inside one of the many large buildings and out of the heavy showers.a good time was had by all.thanks very much to trucknet members ec14 and mechanic77 for their help with my trucks minor mechanical issues .this b series erf was in the auction and sold, she was new to mansel davies.
regards andrew
this picture is for 3300john,this f88 was on display in the outdoor show section at malvern, sorry about the crap picture, but there were alot of people about in between the showers and i had to be quick.for those that are intrested this f88 was new to aston clinton as a wagon and drag, later owned by a haulier in west wales where she was chopped down to a unit.myself and mechanic77 saw the owner start her up,itâs a good job she had a stack as being a typical 290 she would have cleared the crowds with the smoke!
on the welsh border is oswestry, well known operator cadwalladerâs were/are? still based there, this f89 was at malvern yesterday, restored in caddâs colours.

a part of the steel boys indoor display at malvern.
Hi Andrew, I have probably said it befote, but your pete 359 looks the business, spot on. The ones I see here in the States seem to be all bling, no character.
I met up with newmercman last week, he has a 359, and personalised the interior, but left the exterior standard. He is based in Canada and runs big miles.
Shame about the showers in Malvern, but there seems to be a good turn-out of trucks. I must admit I miss the shows etc, and meeting the enthusiasts who work so hard to make it all happen.
here are a couple of ken reesâs photoâs taken during his time driving for entress transport birchgrove swansea.who remembers those hiabâs mounted on tractor units then?some even had a fork lift type device attached to the rear of the chassis.seen on soft ground fully freighted with awoco cable drums.
