. this is another of dai bootsy’s gems and the last posting from me until sunday,me and mrs pete359 are of to northants for the weekend to stay with friends,i’ll be back to anoy everyone on sunday though!

So Rosser weren’t the only one from Pontlliw then Pete, thought it might have been a closed shop
she like brand new and out working in 20 mins if davies bros were still going " pass that tin of green paint and me brush "
Walters bought out Rossers,I worked for Walters–David Ash and Hywel Walters–in 1989 and they had just taken over.I drove a DAF 8wheeler,C125FCY I seem to remember. It died with cylinder head becoming porous in 1991,same time as a sister 8wheeler with another company with the same problem. The Foden was driven by a guy from Caerphilly, loading at Furnacite
They were the best bosses I have ever worked for,but missed Europe so took ADR in Avonmouth to work for BRT–later SAMAT.Then ADR was a case of actually attending courses,no exams!!!
A photo of an AEC Mandator and tank being loaded with toluene at BP Baglan Bay in the early 70s.I know they weren’t a South Wales company,A.E.Evans were based at Barking and Sheffield, however they did have two artics outbased at Swansea, using W.G.Davies’ yard. The work for drivers from London and Sheffield was organised by Jock Glover who had a little office there.Anybody remember him,he’s about 90 now.
Wincanton,Coastal Roadways and Hemphills were working out of that plant at the time, mostly styrene,a lot of which went to BP Plastics at Barry.Wish I’d as many tenners as times I’ve loaded out of there

hi numbum
nice pair of pictures, woodham’s of barry were the scrap people who sold many of the old steam engines that were scrapped on the old causeway going onto barry island.i can remember seeing those engines there in the 1970’s,mike lawrence was one of many hauliers who brought these loco’s out of barry, usually using his f700 mack,no mean feat as anyone who knows barry will tell you,it’s has some very steep hills!
hi all
me and mrs pete 359 returned from a cracking weekend at northants with member steelboyf10 and his family, thanks mate.here are some more from dai bootsy, walters of pontlliw.
[album][album]
this ex forces 401 had an incredibly low mileage, dai did tell me how little it had done.until walters bought her.
i think? dai told me that this ecx has ended up in walters’ grave yard and has now been scrapped.
in my opinion,a very smart traditional fleet livery.

Looks like this might have been new to Pentalver in Southampton?
Excellent pics, brilliant thread! Reckon the Blue ECX is ex Securicor, they had a big batch of them the same time they bought a large batch of Scania 4 series.
A year ago a project was launched to act as a catalyst for all matters of old transport. It having a main bias towards Commercial Vehicles. Part of the work undertaken was to compile a register of pre-1993 commercials that survive in South & West Wales, that are no longer working for a living. We have confirmed 215 to date. At the end of February the year will be up and the free accomodation ends. If you know of any vehicles to go on the register for posterity and future reference, please reply to this post and they can be added before going away to Aberystwyth library for archiving.

Don’t look like there is much call for your skill’s in that fleet Andrew ! Looks like they buy a motor and just adapt the previous operators colours and put the signwriting on !!Did you go to Northampton in the Peterbilt ■■? Cheers Dennis.
The two tone green livery looks very neat and tidy I agree. This colour scheme has been successful on the Waters fleet, Ken Williams Motors, and of course Courtaulds put it on all there vehicles, British Cellanese, Northgates, Treforest Silk Printers, an Bell, Nicolson & Lunt. British Railways adopted it too on the diesels of the early sixties. A great classic transport colour scheme.
