Its great to see such a keen interest in Joint Motorways, it has taken me back to the early 1970âs when I started a new job and had another driver Phil with me to learn my routes. I recall one day when we were doing the West Wales run. We got a chair for him from the canteen with arms on of course and he would sit on it in the cab and as radioâs hadânt got to working vehicles he would crack off some yarns. He told me of a time when he drove for Joint Motorways. They had wagons, coaches, and funeral cars at that time and Phil would drive all of them as required. One night him and another driver were bringing two coaches back from somewhere and were taking it in turns to lead to try to stay awake. On the last leg of the journey they were coming down from Stormey Down to Pyle with Phil trailing. In those days the road went over one railway bridge before coming to a sharp right hand to go over the main line railway and into Pyle. Just before they came to the second bridge the lead driver saw a set of tail lights go straight on at that bend and dissappear down onto the line. He stopped his coach and ran down to the line and got to the caravanette but had to jump clear as an express train hit the vehicle at full speed. The lead driver just watched in horror. It turned out that one of the passengers was his son returning home after a night out! Wow! Phil is still around, had a card and message from him at Christmas, after some 35 years since we worked together. Good driver comradery!

this daf 95 was bought new in 1990.the electoral register drove this truck in the 9 years they ran it.as i recall it never once let them down and was well liked amondst all the drivers,i could never! understand why joints never ran a fleet of these dafâs.
hi andrew i had that motor after peter hardy, done quite a few trips across the water with her, it really went well for a 310!!!,
only problem was it always had a pool of water in the driver footwellâŚ

back in june 2008,there were several fuel protests held throughout south wales.this particular one was a go slow on the m4,the police were in attendance in full riot gear and did their best or worst depending on youâr point of view to stop or minimise the impact.sadly several small firms and owner drivers seen in some of these pictures are no longer trading.
