Andrew, this is a great shot looks as if it could be used as a publicity shot for Iveco’s 8 wheel tracker. Not quite sure how to read the registrations these days, so not sure if this was an early one or not.
I remember reading an interview in Commercial Motor when the 8 wheeler was being launched at the commercial vehicle show in Birmingham. Raymond Price was asked, what do you think of the new truck, come back and ask me in six years he replied, a chip off the old block, just like Alan always thinking business.
As you have mentioned previously, a proper tipper firm, and it has to be said, not just Raymond but his younger brother David and sister Mary have done a superb job of keeping the family in business, along with their employees.
Just as there is a teacher in school or college who we remember for having an effect on our lives, there has to be a boss there also.
No doubt the Jones family at Joint Motorways, played an important part in your early days, and the direction your career took.
At a young age of 21 Alan took me under his wing, one day after passing my class 1 and taught me a lot over the next 3 years.
Those values and work ethic I still follow today, the only other person I worked for who had the same outlook but on a larger scale was Gabriel Harding, the founder of Gulliver’s Truck Hire. Both were successful through hard work, and great individuals.
In the past 21 years in the States I never met anyone in the transport business who could match them in any way.
Regards Paul.

Hi Komatsu you mentioning Aberthaw power station here is a photo of my father Melvyn Mortimer who worked there for many years operateing all the plant there, here he is stood by one of the scraper boxes he drove, i was down there a few day’s ago and there were 5 of them there and 2 were working on the dump awesome sound. He also spent many years driving for E.T Adams & Sons of Cowbridge did have some photo’s of when they had a Leyland Comet with the LAD cab but i can’t find them anywhere

Hi Andrew photo must of been taken 25 + years ago, yes they had 2 engines i,m sure on the Cat the back engine was half the power of the front engine, they sometimes had the Cat’s taken away to be refurbished and they used to hire in a Terex from Locke of Pencoed which was a more basic machine but more powerfull as the 2 engines were the same size, E.T Adams were based at the Darren as you come up the slip road out of Cowbridge towards Bridgend
