Hi all. Andrew those Daf super space cabs look the business. I hear they are decent motors to run.
Bank holiday for you guys today, next week for me. Always good to get an extra day off.
Hopefully you have lots of photos of the Magnums progress to post when you’re ready.

Coming from Derbyshire I would be interested to know where the lime is sourced these days . Many years ago ICI at Buxton took it down in trains , and in the case of trains being late lorries went down and tipping was under a low shed into the bunker feed . I latter days they built hoppers to tip in near the old rail line . I think by then rail had lost the contract , but I’m not sure . Just a memory , I’ve been retired 16 years now .

Morning Rigsby / Rail bunker is long gone I think most of the lime now comes from Shap by road 24/7 Cheers Ian .

Hiya,
Did Rosser’s ever do journey work ? I only ever re-call them running
around the South Wales area, maybe I did my driving with my eyes
closed I did once go into their yard for assistance when I got low on
water I was on for the BRS in those days and they didn’t chase me.

Thanks for that Ian , I spent a large part of my working life running lime and hydrated lime to S.Wales . Llanwern , Port Talbot most of the pits and waterworks and anthracite back north . Happiest days of my life , great people ready to help . Many great nights in the Miners Welfares . The only drawback was when I had to take premixed bagged concrete to seal the shaft at Maerdy , I felt like a traitor . I was tipping at Aberdare waterworks the awful day of Aberfan , never saw grown men cry ( including myself ) before . I’ll always have the memories , more happy than sad . Dave

Hi , re your post about Rosser Pontlliw they did tinplate out of Trostre & Velindre mainly to Swansea Dock and to Metal Box in Neath . They would sometimes be seen on proper long distance work to Cardiff Docks !!.
Regards , Allan, ( not so long retired )

Hi there, I see my brother Ian has brought you up to date re: lime deliveries into Port Talbot.
You mention Aberfan in your post. On the morning it happened I was on my way to Hoovers in Merthyr from the Abbey . The road from Quakers Yard ( iirc ) was obviously closed so it involved a detour via the Aberdare valley. As you say it was a sad day, a tragedy.
Regards, Allan
