joint motorways,
hi,
i clearly remember all the firms you just named.i cannot and trust me i have really really tried,to get hold of any Argosy photos.i’ve asked everyone i can think of,including relatives of the family, the current business in what was Argosy’s yard and even people living in the houses near to what was once their yard. All to no avail.i recall blue DAF 2300’s? ran during the early to mid 1970’s.though i am told they ran aec, leyland, guy, atki, seddon etc etc before the DAF’s.one of their lorries had a nasty accident and moved a bridge on the m50 within days of it opening.
regards andrew…
Hi Andrew , That vehicle was a Seddon I believe hit a bridge parapet on the M50 we dumped the remains in the old quarry across the field from the farm . Cheers Ian .

Were they on coal board work ? From what I know the NCB weren’t that good at dealing with coal slurry ,my uncle ran a slurry dredging and hay making operation ,drying ,mixing / blending sub contract to the NCB ready for forwarding to the power stations .

On truck trader, thought some one may know the history or be interested!
First registered in 1972 & used for hauling steel from South Wales to the Midlands. Bought by a south Wales bus company, it was converted into a recovery truck. It ended its (then) working life as stagecoach torqueys recovery vehicle from where it was rescued in 2000. HISTORY: 1990-92 Cynon Vallet Transport Aberdare; 1992-97 Red and White Buses Cwmbran 1997-2000 Stagecoach Devon (see ); 2000-02 I McIntyre Sussex; 2002-11 J.D.Thomas; 2011-present D.W.Massey (Wincham Wharf) current owner. Who converted her back to a tractor unit and used her for moving boats. It has been operated with a restricted operator’s licence, maintained by Moston’s near Northwich. It has been laid up undercover as I started to find no power steering required too much effort. It is a cherished old truck which has been used until quite recently, which with a little TLC could be made a pristine show truck. The truck starts on the button and drives very well although it is a hard ride without the trailer. With a loaded trailer she is much more comfortable. The chassis and metalwork were professionally shot blasted and painted about four years ago and is still perfect as can be seen in the pictures. It has a beautiful original Gardner 180 engine with a six speed David Brown constant mesh Gearbox.
Hi Steelboy F10 . I am wondering if this originally belonged to Joseph Jones and son from Ystragynlais who pulled out of the Abbey in the sixties , they also had a small fleet of coaches colours were cream with brown chassis John Farmer was the shunter . Cheers Ian .
A great find, Pete! If that’s not Calais (as Reef suggests) I’d say that was taken in Morocco, looking at the architecture and dress. It occurs to me that they’ve used a Volvo publicity shot and that the wagon in the photo might be the same one as this (below)! Robert
