Aye Dennis as you say great days, I loaded from them several times in the 60s, I allways remember Vivien Bowen with his dark hair & his very shiny black work boots,He allways asked if me sheets were in good condition, Of course you will know that the Tin Plate must not get wet, Regards Larry.
Could I have seen a Lee Paul lorry on here before ?

Hi all. Just wondering if those ERFs of Penny’s were ex Davies and Meridith motors!Hi Paul, or John Stephens & Cardiff Tpt sprang to my mind. Hope all is well with yourself. Adrian
Hi Adrian, doing well thanks, hope you are too.
Iirc KG was a Cardiff reg. Cardiff Transport had moved to Newport quite a few years previous to the late 80s/ D reg.
I would of thought all Cardiff Transports motors would of died after their hard life there, no second home for them!
John Stephens perhaps, but wasn’t he based in Newport also.
Watts of Lydney were the ERF dealers based in Newport. Cliff Stephens used to contribute on this site. Cliff had a new ERF E series. He may well be able to recall this motor.
Do commercial vehicles still get taxed at the main post office?
Regards Paul.
Punchy Dan never thought I would see a leepaul lorry on here a I knew them all a bunch of drivers and few others went in together worked hard but sadly didn’t work great bunch of lads any more photos regards rowly

We were often in Bowens yard with the Octopus Larry and Vivien was in the office sometimes but it was normally Jack Reece their traffic manager we always dealt with, the Old man was there occasionally and he always had a word with Eric and me a very decent sort of a Chap I always thought, big Foden man eh! although they did run a few LAD Reivers at that time as well. Cheers Dennis.

hi all,
Bowen’s were a well respected company.in their later years they were an ERF agent.i think? they were another swansea haulier (entress was the first) that never really recovered from the 1979 steel strike, not long after that strike finished, gowerton iron and steel closed aswell as a few others that the big players in swansea relied upon for traffic.35 years later and the south wales steel industry is, “in the same boat again”.been busy getting my truck ready for the 2016 season lately, not had time to post much.normal service will resume …
Great pair Andrew ,I’ll take the green one !
