A couple here sent to me by my mate,Nick Garlick .western roadways Cardiff.

Hi all,
Gulliver’s truck rental have been with us for around 50 years? They have had a depot in Cardiff for as far back as I can recall.i gather these Middle East bound 290’s were from their penarth road branch, anyone recognise the faces? Lovely shade of blue on the cabs? ,sbf10

I’m not sure but I would say Owens had the livery first, there was many a company with the same design as it was applied by Swansea sign writer Derek Crook. eg.Mansel Davies, Days of Swansea,

Hi m8,
Renting out trucks for Middle East runs,I bet that gave gulliver’s some fun and games over the years! Here is another you may recall? You and I and several others met up at the hollies and via Shrewsbury and Hereford,we ended up in porthcawl, this photo is the garage at Leominster…

Wow Swansea sign writer Derek Crook used to do work for the Ford Dealership where i did my apprenticeship 39 yrs ago! i remember being mesmorised with his skill and he would go about his work and chat to us no prob’s , he used to do a lot of work for us none less than the detailed signwriting on the Buckleys Brewery of Llanelli vans & trucks.

Does anyone know if he is still with us by any chance ■■?

Great memories

Hi all,
A few here courtesy of Gareth smith.

Pete359,

Thanks for posting this Ernest E Maidment Seddon, another memory jerker for me as this garage is around 1/2 a mile from my home but sadly no longer exists as it was demolished some years ago and still remains an empty plot of land today!

This was the former premisis of John Evans & Sons (Bancffosfelen) whom were old established hauliers & coach operators from the 40’s, this garage was very interesting as the 2 w’shop bays were joined up to a central parts / tool storage area in the basement accessed via doorways fom either inspection pit’s! a very useful use of space.

John Evans were pretty much exclusive A.E.C. operators with Marshall Major 6/8 wheelers and flat 4 wheelers, plus a handful of coaches, but i have seen a pic of a nice c reg 1965 Dodge 4 wheel tipper on the net!

Any more pic’s of E.E.Maidment stock Pete359■■? would love to see them.

thanks.

After studying this photo i think the driver on left of pic may have been Fred Maidment Ernest’s brother who used to work with us at the ford dealership in Crosshands!!!?

Indeed I do, what a great weekend, have you still got the video? Of us in Upton on the Saturday morning…Destination Doha style!, pity the photo was not the full truck so we could see the detail of the trailer INCLUDING the rear under run bar    , didn’t Wardy have alternator trouble with the 110, seem to recall he grafted an 88 alternator on…what a star :sunglasses:
