hi all,
another of billy thomas’ photos.somewhere a very long way from brynmawr, pulling a hicks tilt
.
hi all,
here is billy’s first f12,infact the first f12 sold in south wales.brand new from griffin mill in pontypridd.
I have read with great interest the many references to Gwynne Bowen of Gorseinon in this thread. As a lad growing up in Gorseinon I recall the haulage/transport business of Gwynne Bowen. The business had premises in West Street, Gorseinon (next to what was the Rhydypolon Forge) and also in Warrington with a fleet of several vehicles with the very distinctive red and blue livery which I have also seen in some of the photos in this thread. I am in the process of compiling my family tree. I was told many times by family members that Gwynne was one of “our” Bowens but I have not been able to locate him in the line. I have traced the Bowen line back to the early 1800s in the Cefndrum area of Pontarddulais. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could let me have any relevant information regarding Gwynne and his family, e.g. parents, dates of birth/death, spouse, children, photos etc. Any information may help me resolve this conundrum. I note from an earlier post a reference to a son Vivian. I also note from the official documents posted in the “London Gazette” when the business was being wound up in the mid 1980s that they are signed by a “B Bowen”. Many thanks in anticipation of any help. (By irony, Rhydypolon in Gorseinon also features in my family tree from the time it was established by Evan Evans in the early 1900s through to the 1990s when it was being run by Evan’s Grandson, Vernon Davies, who died in 2012)
Gwynne Bowen had 1 son Vivian who died young and was married to a lady called Buddug they had no children sorry but i dont have any dates
Thanks for that pengelli - all clues are welcome!

Hi penglais ,
I had been told that Gwynne Bowen passed away after a heart attack whist watching a rugby match between Wales and the former Yugoslavia .
His wife apparently would reprimand drivers if vehicles had not been washed to her satisfaction , hence the very smart appearance ! A familiar sight in the West mids , they would often backload bricks via Starr Roadways Bilston , regards Keith
Sounds about right. All of Gwynne Bowen’s wagons were lettered using gold leaf. If my lorry had gold leaf on it, I’d be making sure it shone like the sun.
Thanks for the replies. Wales played Yugoslavia in 1976. There is a record of a Gwynne Bowen who died in Pontypool aged 48 in 1976. Does that sound right (I’m not certain about the Pontypool connection■■?)

Apparently MRJ Phillips had most of the scrapped vehicles at the close of business. Gwynne would also keep ropes and sheets in the boot of that Bentley ! , regards Keith .
