I.T.S crash Milton Keynes 1979.

Anyone remember Jones transport from Morriston / Swansea? Alan and John (Bootsy) Jones. Here is one of their Ford Transcontinental ■■■■■■■ trucks being used in the Morriston carnival. Does anyone know what the 1 badge on the grille signifies? They had “E R F” and DAF trucks too. Will post a PIC of the E R F once I’ve scanned it.

Wow. That’s a smash and no mistake.

My notes give this ERF as written off on 31 May 1979; this could be the date of the smash but could just as easily be the date it was formally declared a write off by the insurers. KEP199P was put on the road by Illtyd Thomas on 30 April 1975 and the chassis number was 30061.

jones transport morriston, john passed away couple years ago age 52.i think the transcon was their first truck they bought, the sun visor on the transcon was off a seddon Atkinson cut in half and extended to fit. they also had some s.a 400/401, before moving on to erfs.

The ERF on the low loader was ex calor, L10 ■■■■■■■ 290, low millage but with engine problems when bought , John Jones drove it when it was up and running.

Was that John Jones from Calor’s Three ■■■■■ Depot Paul ?
Cheers Dave.

alun drove the ex calor erf john is in the green erf.

Fair play I Thomas put enough through the hedge in their time so it would seem …

The green ERF looks very smart. Did Jones have it new or secondhand? The only reason I ask is that the registration looks very familiar - was it ex AH Gore from High Littleton? She’s also Bristol reg - was there a dealer over in South or West Wales or did they all come from this side of the water?

So many questions, so little memory!

Hi , the ERF came second hand, not sure where from, it had a Gardner 300 in it, think that was the straight 8 240, with a turbo on it, I could be wrong though !

Another great picture Dai. 244HWN stayed in service until 01 December 1971, when 2 brand new Atkinson Borderer antics arrived, BWN262K and BWN765K.

FUJ927 lasted in service until 02 June 1967. EMA580 is a new one to me so I will add it to the list, thanks for that. I am very short on vehicle details from the early years of the Illtyd Thomas business although I do have some gen on other related businesses run by family members.

hi Andrew, BWN 765K Was a 240 Gardner, that was called Sketty Star, Dai Beynon had it, and BWN 262K was a 180 Gardner driven by Gwyn Bach. Here,s some atkys.

More info! Thanks Dai. Pity I cannot read the registration plates of the Atkis in your picture as I may be able to tell you more. IT had 28 of them over the years, maybe more.

The name Sketty Star was also on a B-Series ERF in later years. The name goes back to the pre-nationalisation company which was David Thomas & Sons which traded as Sketty Star Motors, and ran some buses as well as lorries.
