South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Hello all,
STGO Was originally brought out in 1979 and later revised in 2003,Cat1 covers weights to a maximum of 50tons, Cat 2 covers up to 80 tons and Cat 3 up to 150 tons, There is also for wide but not neccesary heavy loads a VR1 or Special order that has to be applied for if the load does’nt meet a certain criteria. But generally vehicles that operate under STGO are subject to additional design changes such as brake efficiency and tyre size and a host of other features. There is also in place a speed restriction for certain weights as on a motorway the maximum speed is 40 MPH for Cat 3 and 30 MPH on a dual carrigeway, In my opinion the STGO rules badly need another looking at as technology has moved on so quickly. Smallcoal, As for the Challenger MK 2 battle tanks they were only subject to a basic movement notification as they are roughly 11 ft 6ins wide and only 65 tons which would firmly put the low loaders into Cat 3. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: .

Hello mate,
Ha,ha I am 50 this year mate and in my defence,my lorries, when I buy them most sane individuals wouldn’t want to drive, let alone sleep in the thing!though my merc has been very well looked after Tbf.Good to know you are on here simon and whilst arranging our travel plans I nearly? Had to ask you for a lift to Munich? Easyjet weren’t at flying to Munich from gatwick last Friday  .anyway my great friend and top driver Fred Everiss and I had a great run up to Luxembourg via Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, was good to see fords at saarlouis still being there and bigger than I remember.between Luxembourg and Namur (Belgium) we hit pretty heavy snow and saw lots our Eastern European friends aiming? Artics badly.we crossed the channel quickly via john Parker international horse transport and euro tunnel, later it was good to meet up with mechanic77 and thanks for the key ring.an awesome experience and to say I am happy with the heinkel is the understatement of the decade.
