Hello rdiaz, sorry to hear that Bernard has passed away, I worked with him at JR for many years on local and the abominable
and invisible
loads as we used to call them. He was still going strong the last time I met him in the early 90`s.
That Foden in the picture was (to my knowledge) the first and only Cat powered motor JR bought, Big ■■■■ Hopkins had it new and the photo shows his name on the front. Best Wishes ,Mike.

Hello Andrew, Your memory is much better than mine, that`s the advantage of youth!!

Hi Dai I am interested in where the picture came from of the two transcons utx 783&784S , although in Hicks colour’s at the time this picture was taken circa 1981/2 they belonged to me Dad. looking how clean the tractors are in the photo i am sure they were out bound possibly to Iraq typical middle east spec ie trailer flaps on the drive axle and tax disc at the top of the windscreen, to make it hard for plod to see that they were taxed private . a pair of well travelled old girls, good old days!!

Hi,
I remember your grandfather.from port talbot,I think? During the 80’s he drove a Gardner powered Seddon atki. 400 and during the summer months he would grow tomatoes on top of the dash![]()
sorry to hear that he has passed away.
Regards andrew.
Thanks for the reply Andrew and mike glad he was remembered always been a bit of a boy. Doesn’t surprise me about him growing tomatoes on the dash. I’ve got a few stories myself spent many a summer holiday as a kid out and about with him in the lorry ducking down with a coat over me to get past the security box in the abbey port talbot works. Didn’t think id end up working there always dreamed of following his footsteps into becoming a driver actually still would like to fingers crossed one day I will.
Regards Richard

Terrific picture that Andrew. They “sat well” with the 3rd axle on didn’t they. Keep them coming, really nice to see them. Adrian
Hi Adrian,
You are very welcome sir.
Leyland Beaver in the top photo belonged to the Thomas Brothers of Colwinston, I think the beaver used to be a radiography unit had a box body on it and it was cream and dark blue, the photo’s may of been taken at the Barry Bus show

hiya,
Can I have the one on the left the one with the leccy wipers those air
operated ones were a nightmare, I used to carry a baccy tin of cotter
and split pins at all times and it was guaranteed I would have to make
a repair at some time on just about every trip and the noise made by
them was bloody awful but I still loved driving them.
thanks harry, long retired.
