hiya,
I never had anything to do with those big Fords, but did fancy a bit of a go in one
I guess they had a variety of engines inboard they did seem to go well but they
did seem to break down more than other marques frequently seen in parked-up
mode with the shed tipped over and a fitters van in attendance.
thanks harry, long retired.

Those Ivecos belonged to Dai “chains” Morris from Porth,I put a photo of his old Transcon on here some time ago. My Dad done a few jobs now and again for him with one of those units, one tale in particular involved some clown in an open top car trying to squeeze in front of the old man while he was heading for a narrow entrance, result one set of Iveco front wheel nuts straight up the side of the car. They peeled the guys fingers off the steering wheel when the old bill turned up!

dai chains name from the past good bloke dai if I remember rightly he went owner driver from glyn john with a transcon and a few others many years ago keep these glyn s john photos coming regards rowly

Thanks for that rowly, that’s cleared that mistery up and I’ll do me best with the photos, should have some more in the post of jr to help me with the photo book I’m doing for them

I have been looking at this forum for a while and finally signed on.

Looking at some of the posts of glyn john transport, I think dai chains had the first transcon at glyn johns if my memory is correct it had a220 ■■■■■■■ an n reg.

The three photos of the renault and iveco I think it shows brian smith who I think still lives at beddau but the the date is probably wrong as he never started with g/j until the early seventies, also were the iveco,s on the road then, the two in dinner dress shows B smith on the right.

The first ford transcontinental glyn John transport had was driven by Norman bailey and apparently was fitted with a 335 ■■■■■■■■
At the time he used to complain that he was only allowed to go from Treforest to Penrith in one shift because the unions said you were only allowed to drive something like 431kms a day
I may be wrong about the mileage but I know it was something around that figure

Yes you are right (an age thing) the only transcon with an engine (350?) that i knew about belonged to peter parry from cardiff it used to run out of graig-yr-hesg in pontypridd it was an ex demo ,

perfection 14 norman really looked after that transcon always cleaning it but I don’t think it was a335 or a 220 but I do think he was the first one to have one on glyn s regards rowly

Hi all,
Correct kelv.there is a photo of that very transcon.that you refer too In pat dyers book.she had a k series American ■■■■■■■ in her.personally I have never seen a transcon with a 220 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ first two had 250’s in them.the 14 litres were the best in my opinion.
