South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Bell lines subbies used to bring containers loaded with zinc ingots in by the dozen and j&m staff tipped them right out side my parents bodyshop at stormy down :sunglasses: .they were then stored in j&m’s hanger next door to us.as and when they were told J&m then delivered the ingots to burry port near Llanelli.i accompanied many drivers during the 1970’s school holidays.memories I will cherish for ever.don’t know what’s going on here though :open_mouth: I presume the box is empty :exclamation: cause that 86 would “buck a bit” pulling a loaded box and a large coil

Left to right, billy Morgan, unknown?,Philip o’reilly and Sid evans.

A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do, I can’t imagine that scene today and the trouble you’d get in. They’ll have you wearing a harness next to get in and out the cab with

Great shot of the (then) new Dragon coiler Andrew, now for the interegation, sorry, questions  Can I assume that they were built in S,Wales, whereabouts? What year would this shot have been taken ?It looks like it was on ROR running gear but a pity about the 1000x20 tyre equipment  It does look like a substantial trailer though so how long were they manufacturing them.Did Joints run any? I once bought 5 near new Keltrail tri axle coilers off Keltruck, they had got an engineer from Crane Fruehauf to design and build them but I dont think the job lasted, they were well built trailers on BPW air suspension,I sent them to Grahams of Gildersom and had brand new Curtainsider bodies built on,we did away with the wells and fitted better floors. They worked out about two thirds of the cost of a brand new chassis and body and they came into the fleet spick and span and as good as new :sunglasses: Don’t burn your brain cell out answering I’m only a nosey ■■■■■■■■■■■ genuine reasons of course  Cheers Dennis.

Andrew ,Im sure the unknown` chap in a previous photo is Jim Tremlett, he worked with us at Glyn Morgan for a while, shunted in the Abbey for a few hauliers and obviously ended up at J & M.I believe he is now in the big transport cafe in the sky. Best Wishes Mike
