hi harry,
i meant to add that many years before i was born.the huge (at the time) transport concern of davis bros. were based there along with several others over the years,so you could well have called in there for a back load.
regards andrew.
guaranteed a contradiction on here I stand corrected
Hi Andrew, funny how those old photos of J & M bring back memories,I notice there are quite a few loads of flat steel in the yard,I wonder if they were still doing a lot of Fords Southampton , which is what Ron and John started on in the early 70s I was shunting in the Abbey for Glyn Morgan at the time and used to load 2 loads of Fords for them and tip the scrap they brought back. This was when they ran an Ergo Mandator after the S-Type Bedford .The two brothers used to run it 24 hours until John hit a kerb in Warminster and broke his wrist.I think that they employed Alan Buffey to change with Ron at that time and of course they got bigger and bigger. If you see John at all he will probably tell you my memory
s not as good as I think it is but I am nearly 70.As weve said before roping and sheeting was an art if you got it right, I always remember Alan Buffey telling me he was always worried that he hadn
t folded the sheets to my satisfaction ,not that it mattered anyway. Mike

Hi all,
A scammell crusader demo at J&M .
That was how J H Hourds ended up with their colours when they bought some Scammell and Guy Big J demos!
Correction to the post above,John Morgan had the habit of driving with his thumb through the steering wheel and that`s how he broke his wrist, not by punching the kerb!

Would that be the renowned Sid Evans looking at the Scammel ?

Hi all, Andrew great photo’s of J&Ms F88s.
Just saw Volvo’s latest dare devil stunt with Jean Claude Vandam standing on the mirror arms of two new FHs going backwards doing the splitz. It made the ABC national news here. Looked impressive, not sure if it will sell any trucks though. Although the most impressive part was the driver skill in reversing if the commentator got their info right.
Regards Paul
