Had many identical loads like that on the Octopus and trailer, usually 14/15 ton on the motor and 6 or 7 on the trailer,I know this will sound “silly” but I always thought it was a great sight looking back through the quarter window (passenger side of course ) to admire that perfect load of tin plate, sheeted and roped as " tight as Andrews wallet",bootiful sight, trailer following perfectly.Great days and great place South Wales,Cheers Dennis.

I must agree with you there Bewick a load of tin plate looked good when well sheeted. I only ever carried one load of tin plate from Ebbw Vale to Metal Box at Westhoughton in company with Alex and his Trader back about 1965 when my two wagons and Alex took three loads of steel sleepers from Workington Steelworks to Port Talbot loading back with tin plate. I remember a lass on a horse prancing about on the Heads of The Valleys road as we went down, the Trader in front went zooming down a long hill never drawing reign flaying the horse as you might know. His answer when asked about flaying the horse, “Shouldn’t be on the zb road”.

Daimler Benz acquired Detroit Diesel some years ago and have been using the 12Litre engine in the Axor. A developement of this engine is what’s powering the new Actros.
Yes, Daimler Benz bought Detroit a few years back, Roger Penske the largest share holder at that time. Detroit now have a 15l World engine which is fitted in Freightliner trucks only. Detroit no longer sell engines to other truck assemblers or manufacturers. Daimler Benz bought Freightliner back in the 70s.
There was talk that the North American World engine would be used by Mercedes Benz, possibly a 13l version.
