Dear Steelboys, I was totally blown away with this picture, the presentation by John and Ulf at Volvo again caught me napping so to speak!. My missing last years run was disastrous , but this year more than made up for it. I did not get chance to thank personally those who contributed, so please forgive me for using This thread to kick off my Thanks You’s. the Steelboys will and will continue to represent some of my best friends, thanks for the friendship, camaraderie , and p"!s taking over the past 12 years, and again a huge hart felt thank you to all involved, just need to get it above the fire in the front room…I have a plan!!!, cheers all, GB

morning paul john.
that reg is most definately cardiff, there was the cardiff local licencing office and merthyr had a licencing office which always gave out HB ,newport had an office along with swansea, also carmarthen had a licencing office which served all of that area.bit of useless info for a sunday morning.
HI gah .a bit more useless info . Newport had two licencing offices , one at stelvio was NY AX WO . civic centre was DW . Re OTTO .
thanks for that otto.the newport and merthyr was swallowed up into cardiff in the early seventies. took all the interest out of local registrations.

Hi Graham, hows it going.
So UKG was a Cardiff reg. I don’t remember seeing many trucks with that reg, but it looks as if there was 800 registered if not more.
It may of been more cars as there were a lot of new car dealerships in the city.
I do remember Howell’s and Baker’s having a block of continous numbers when they put new cars on the road in August (HB).
I see the new number plates on here and honestly dont have a clue what year they are registered, and believe its twice yearly now.
Regards Paul.

Hi all,
That is a cracking photo there Andrew. Alan’s work is very good. Nice surprise for sbf10, and no doubt made the show extra special.
Looks as if Gaydon was a success, unfortunatly was commited to a week in San Francisco this year, hopefuly U.K. next year.
Your truck is looking good. I see Dave has posted a bunch of photo’s, I am going to go through them in a minute and catch up on this site.
Whats the score with Rowlys F88, and Martins Merc?.
Good luck to all of the South Wales boys who will be doing the circuit this year.
Regards Paul.

hello paul,
yes the index system in use now is confusing,do owners of vehicles in the states have to buy their own number plates or something like that and refit them if they change cars/trucks etc.
regards graham
